‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 12 Episode 6 Recap — It’s Time for the Snatch Game
It’s (finally) time for the Snatch Game. Which drag performer can put on her best face, or rather, somebody else’s face, and win this beloved maxi challenge? Here’s what you might’ve missed from episode 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12.
This article contains spoilers from the sixth episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12. Read at your own risk, squirrel friends!
Nicky Doll has been eliminated and 10 queens remain in the competition
It’s a new day and the Heidi is wiping off Nicky Doll’s message in the mirror. Brita brings up (again) that Aiden wasn’t in the bottom. Brita is from New York, in case you didn’t know. She has a reputation. She shouldn’t have been in the bottom.
Aiden is over it, she explains. She’s tired of feeling good about herself only to have the other queens tear her down. Then again, this is not RuPaul’s Excuse Race. Gigi Goode whips off her wig and the opening credits appear across the screen.
No time for a mini-challenge this week. It’s the Snatch Game, the parody of Match Game in which contestants impersonate their favorite celebrities to make people laugh. The queens couldn’t be more excited.
Miss Vanjie joins RuPaul in the Werk Room
While they’re getting ready in the Werk Room, the queens explain their Snatch Game choices. Aiden is The Rocky Horror Picture Show actor Patricia Quinn, Brita is Jennifer Holliday, Crystal is YouTube star Poppy, Heidi is former guest star Leslie Jones, Jackie is Real Housewife Lisa Rinna, Jaida is Cardi B, Jan is Broadway’s Bernadette Peters, Widow is Tina Turner, and Gigi Goode is Maria the Robot.
For the walkthrough, RuPaul is joined by Drag Race alumna, Miss Vanjie. Crystal is feeling a little vulnerable and joins Plastique Tiara as one of the few queens to get a hug from RuPaul.
The other contestants don’t get as warm of a response. Vanjie hits on Jackie Cox. Ru tells Heidi to be one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and warns Gigi Goode that being a robot isn’t funny. No matter, it’s time for the challenge.
Let the Snatch Game begin!
It’s time for the Snatch Game, with both Mean Girls alumni (Daniel Franzese and Jonathan Bennett) as the real celebrities (and a welcomed cameo from Dahlia Sin as the brocc-ally.) There are a few standout performances, including Jackie Cox with her wine and cardigan and Gigi Goode, who nails the physical comedy with her cards and marker.
Some queens obviously don’t do as well, including Aiden Zhane and Crystal Methyd, who seem to be repeating a lot of the same jokes. And they’re not landing.
The queens have time to prepare for the runway and they all talk about how they felt they did in the Snatch Game. For Widow, she chose Tina Turner because she really identifies with someone who was in an abusive relationship. Jackie reassures Widow that she’s now an inspiration for people watching who may be in the same situation.
Gigi has a chance to talk about her childhood, growing up with a super supportive mother and uncle. She even shares that she identifies as genderfluid. For Aiden, she shares that her runway is a bit campy and kooky, so, hopefully, that will keep her safe.
On the runway, the category is ‘Frozen,’ inspired by the Broadway musical
It’s time for the runway and the category is Frozen realness, inspired by the Broadway musical. Based on the judge’s critiques, Aiden’s look was kind of campy, but she definitely got the worst critiques out of everyone. (Jan’s look was a personal favorite.)
With an adorably delicious runway look and a hilarious Snatch Game performance, Gigi Goode is the winner of this week’s challenge. Brita, Crystal Methyd, and Aiden Zhane are in the bottom, but it’s Brita and Aiden who have to lip-sync for their lives.
The song this week fits perfectly with the Frozen theme: “Let It Go,” performed by Caissie Levy in the Broadway musical. After a few minutes of passionate lip-syncing, and even snow on the mainstage, RuPaul made her decision. Brita is safe and Aiden sashays away — but not before getting in one last scream. She will be the quiet queen no longer!
