‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 14 Finalists Ranked Best to Worst for the Crown
RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 has been a long road, but the show finally narrowed it down to the finalists. For the first time in the show’s history, there will be a final five in the finale competing for the crown. Here’s a look at the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 finalists and who’s most worthy of following up season 13’s Symone.
Lady Camden is the strongest of the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14’ finalists
Lady Camden jumps leaps and bounds beyond her fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 finalists. She spent most of the early part of the season “safe,” but really made a name for herself with the judges on episode 7 – “The Daytona Wind.” She’s entering the finale with three wins under her belt, but she also deserved to win more than she did.
Camden put on a massively impressive display with episode 6 – “Glamazon Prime,” where the queens had to design a look from junk. She turned out a gorgeous Victoria Secret look that easily deserved the win. However, Jorgeous got the win for her cookie-cutter outfit that sent the fandom and Daya Betty into a frustrated frenzy.
Season 14 has one of the worst “Snatch Game” showings in the show’s history. However, RuPaul could still have called tops and bottoms, rather than putting them all in the bottom. Camden’s William Shakespeare wasn’t good, but it certainly wasn’t as bad as some of her competition.
Finally, Camden brings the unexpected to the runway and consistently shows different sides to her style and personality. Despite an entertaining outburst with fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist, Bosco, this queen represents positivity and kindness in a way that would do the title and crown proud.
Willow Pillow
Willow Pill has proven really tough competition for the other season 14 finalists. She instantly caught the judges’ attention with her incredibly odd, yet fascinating talent show in the first episode. However, Willow continued to impress both RuPaul and the fandom over the course of the season. She brings only one win to the finale, but she certainly adds a consistently strong track record to the season’s final episode.
Willow is the most strategic of the season 14 finalists, as she displays a clear understanding of how to play the game. She never gives too much away to her competitors and doesn’t brag – she allows her talent to speak for itself.
One common strength between Willow and Camden is their ability to always show something different and unique on the runway. Her creativity elevates her looks, allowing even simpler aesthetics to feel fresh and new.
She might be season 11 winner Yvie Oddly’s drag sister, but she couldn’t be more different. Willow never relies on this connection to carry her through the competition, putting her own creativity, uniqueness, nerve, and talent at the forefront. She landed in the bottom twice – once for “Snatch Game” and again most recently in “Catwalk.” Nevertheless, she delivered a solid lip-sync and doesn’t allow the competition to break her.
Willow is the second-best pick for the crown of the season 14 finalists and would certainly bring a different aesthetic than the most recent crop of past winners.
Daya Betty
Daya Betty was the second queen that RuPaul asked to sashay away. However, she was given another chance alongside the first eliminated queen, Orion Story. Daya is ridiculously great reality television, delivering some of the only juicy drama of the season. She nearly had a breakdown about failing to secure a win until the 60’s girl groups challenge in episode 8. This is her only win.
However, Daya brings a whole lot to the show than drama. Her runways are consistently fascinating and the judging toward her wasn’t always right. Daya’s Red, White, and Blue Bridal Couture, Glamazon Primetime, Mirror, Mirror, and You’re a Winner Baby looks are all stand-outs.
She’s consistently compared to her drag sister, season 12’s Crystal Methyd, but she further separated herself from the brand with her punk rock vibe that only became more delicious as the season progressed.
If Daya wins, she will be the first-ever queen to win the crown after being eliminated. Many audiences and her season 14 finalists are likely counting her out, but she once again proved in episode 14, “Catwalk,” that she’s very smart, creative, and fierce. Even if she doesn’t win the crown, she will be one to watch out for on All Stars, if she chooses to return.
Angeria Paris VanMichaels
Angeria Paris VanMichaels was an early favorite, busting onto the scene with the best entrance look. She’s by far the most charismatic queen of the season, delivering a charm that is one in a million. She joins her fellow season 14 finalists with two wins in the competition.
It’s no secret that this queen’s primary weakness throughout the season is anything involving choreography. However, many of her looks on the runways are winners. She delivers a pageant aesthetic and isn’t afraid to implement the judges’ critiques to the best of her ability.
There’s no question that Angeria is a star through and through. She only has two bottom placements, but the lip-sync at the end of episode 14, “Catwalk,” wasn’t worthy of a double save, with Willow delivering the better lip-sync. However, she’s a fan favorite and it wouldn’t feel right to have a finale without Angeria there. Unfortunately, some of her season 14 finalists put on a stronger showing.
However, Angeria is another one to look out for on All Stars, if she doesn’t take home the crown on the first go.
Bosco didn’t bring enough variety compared to other ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14’ finalists
Bosco’s wit and charm easily place her in the finale starting from her Meet the Queens appearance. This later translated into the funniest queen of the season. Bosco herself even recognized on the show that she has a strength of reading her sisters. She brings three wins to compete against her fellow season 14 finalists in the finale.
This queen only had one bottom placement until she got eliminated in episode 12 in a lip-sync against Jorgeous. However, the golden candy bar twist saved her and allowed her to stay in the competition. Bosco persevered and kept her eye on the prize.
After Kerri Colby‘s exit, Bosco was the saving grace for confessionals. She’s consistently funny and has a great, dry sense of humor. However, the other season 14 finalists bring much more versatility. Bosco knows comedy, but there’s more to bring to this competition. For example, she wore the same bra and panty combination nearly every week of the competition. Entering the finale, there are still a lot of sides to the Bosco personality that audiences haven’t seen.
All of the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 14 finalists are strong and worthy competitors for the crown. However, they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Bosco has an entire redemption arc built around her near-elimination in episode 11, “An Extra Special Episode,” where queens competed in a LaLaPaRUza smackdown, and her actual elimination in episode 12. As a result, she shouldn’t be counted out.
Regardless of who wins, many fans will celebrate the victory. Each season 14 finalist appeals to a different style of drag, making this a finale well-worth watching.
