Rupert Grint May Have Been an Ice Cream Man if He Wasn’t Acting
Rupert Grint has been an actor for the majority of his life. He wasn’t even a teenager when landed the coveted role of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. Since then, he has lent his talents to a medley of films and TV shows. Fans can currently catch him portraying Julian Pearce in the psychological horror Apple+ series, Servant. But Grint had other dreams before his acting career took off. In fact, he seriously considered being an ice cream man.
It’s no secret that Grint made millions from the Harry Potter movies. But the amount of money he’d accrued was pretty overwhelming at first. The Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities actor admitted that for a while, he had no idea what to do with all his money. Ultimately, his first splurge ended up being a kind of wish fulfillment for his inner child.
Emma Watson revealed that Rupert Grint considered being an ice cream man
While on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Grint’s Harry Potter co-star, Emma Watson revealed that Grint had purchased an ice cream truck. She also shared that Grint had confided in her that he would’ve considered being an ice cream man as a career path. Apparently, Grint loved driving the truck around and serving people with cold treats.
“Rupert bought an ice cream truck,” Watson explained about Grint. “I’m not even kidding. He actually said to me, he was just being quite serious, he said, ‘If I hadn’t become an actor, I seriously would have considered being an ice cream man.’ I was like, ‘Okay, cool, well.’ So he’s kind of like fulfilled both dreams, you know? It’s not just like he’s bought the truck to kind of drive around, kind of for show. It actually has all of the ice cream in it. All of like the little chocolate drops and everything. It’s amazing.”
The ‘Servant’ actor’s very first car was an ice cream truck
In a separate interview with Top Gear, Grint echoed Watson’s statement. He also gave a more detailed description of his ice cream truck, which was also his very first car. “It’s something I’ve always, always wanted as a child,” Grint explained. “It’s kind of a dream, really. It’s a ’74 Bedford, it’s pink. It’s not the most practical car cause it’s got one seat. And it’s basically a kitchen on wheels. But umm, you do get people queuing up on the side of the road.”
Grint also purchased a hovercraft with his ‘Harry Potter’ money
But an ice cream truck wasn’t the only unusual vehicle that Grint purchased. He also used his Harry Potter money to purchase a hovercraft. The actor admitted that the hovercraft was very fun. However, the hovercraft was also dangerous because there were no brakes and he had no control over the vehicle. Clearly, Grint had some whimsical fun with his first vehicles. Certainly, his choices were a far cry away from Watson’s first car, an environmentally-friendly Toyota Prius.
