One of the most exciting aspects of modern music is how the internet makes it easy for people to track the trajectories of their favorite stars. Sabrina Carpenter has been a pop singer for many years, but she only recently became a pop star. She broke the mold by becoming famous many years into her career. The former Disney star explained why she has no issue with her long road to the top.

Sabrina Carpenter said that slowly becoming a pop star was good for her

Some artists who seem to become famous out of nowhere are controversially referred to as “industry plants.” Certain fans see these artists as having phony followings. Carpenter, on the other hand, has been working for her success for a long time. She became an “It Girl” after releasing five albums and appearing in many films and television series. Some stars might be annoyed by that career trajectory, but the “Please Please Please” singer is glad her singing career took years to launch.

During a 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter said she was happy to know her career slowly grew in prominence. “I feel really grateful that this has happened over the course of a lot of time of me figuring it out because it doesn’t feel like it was sprung up on me,” the “Nonsense” singer said. “It’s almost like I can just relax and be excited about it. I say Sabrina wasn’t built in a day.”

The former Disney star always knew she would be a pop star

The “Espresso” singer was asked if she ever doubted that her singing career would take off. She didn’t! “I’m just annoying,” she said. “I’m literally just annoying. I never had the plan B, and it wasn’t even a thought in my mind that it wouldn’t work out. I just always knew it was about not if it would happen but when it would happen.”

During a 2023 interview with Grammy.com, Carpenter revealed what it was like to be named Variety’s Rising Star Of 2023. “Just to be recognized by them was also surreal, because then I’m in a room with a bunch of people whose music I listen to, songs I study, and producers I love,” she said. “I was just sitting there talking to them — and it’s not, like, imposter syndrome, because it did feel like such an honor. It’s cool to be able to do the thing I love the most, and when those things happen, it’s just icing on the cake. I’m very grateful for them.”

How the charts have treated Sabrina Carpenter

So far, Carpenter has only produced two top-10 singles: “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” The former reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 10 weeks. Meanwhile, “Please Please Please” is currently sitting pretty at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 during its second week on the chart.

Is Carpenter another star for the moment, or is she going to last? No one can say. However, her sense of humor and clever approach to songwriting suggest she might have some staying power. She seems talented enough that she could always have a following, even if she’s not topping the charts.

Carpenter took the long road, and she’s glad.
