Sabrina Carpenter Is ‘Obsessed With Rihanna’ But Doesn’t Want to Hear About Part of Her Life
Sabrina Carpenter is a big fan of Rihanna, but her love for the “Only Girl (In the World)” singer only goes so far. Carpenter said she’s not interested in a certain part of Rihanna’s life and that she feels the same about Beyoncé. Interestingly, Carpenter said an obscure Rihanna song had a big influence on her.
Sabrina Carpenter doesn’t want to hear about Rhianna’s personal life
During a 2023 interview with Glamour, the “Please Please Please” singer was asked how she deals with false rumors. “Humor,” she replied. “Sarcasm. Yeah. I think that’s my favorite way also because it’s very silly when you think about it. When I was younger, I definitely didn’t think that my life would be picked apart in any sense, especially not my personal life.
“Like, I love Rihanna so much,” the “Espresso” singer said. “I’m obsessed with Rihanna, but I don’t care about those private parts of her life for whatever reason. But maybe I’m different. Maybe everybody else disagrees.” Like the lives of many other superstars, Rihanna’s personal life (including her relationship with Chris Brown) has received lots of attention. There’s also been plenty of speculation as to whether some of her songs and music videos allude to Brown.
She doesn’t want to hear about Beyoncé’s personal life either
Carpenter has similar feelings about another R&B star. “But there’s something about even Beyoncé, I’m like, ‘What happens at home, stays at home,'” she said. “I love her, but I’m like, you can have your personal life, and that’s fine. So it’s always just funny to me when people care. But yeah, I like to just be silly and sarcastic about it.” Beyoncé has garnered numerous headlines due to her marriage to Jay-Z. Her albums Lemonade and Everything Is Love are both explicitly about the marriage, so speculating on Queen B’s personal life feels like it’s fair game.
The “Nonsense” singer discussed what it feels like to face other people’s preconceptions. “I’ve faced a few challenges for sure, but there’s always been something about preconceived notions that bothered me,” she said. “Because I always felt like for other people, I would try to meet them exactly where they were at in that present moment.”
Sabrina Carpenter said 1 Rihanna song defined her life
That wasn’t the only time Carpenter praised Rihanna. During a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue, she named the songs that defined her life. She picked songs by artists from many genres, including classic rock (The Beatles), country (Skeeter Davis), disco (ABBA), Latin music (Santana), soul (Etta James), and pop (Christina Aguilera). She added one Rihanna song to the list: “Consideration.”
“Consideration” appeared on Anti, which is arguably the most hyped and acclaimed record of Rihanna’s career. While it appeared on a major record, “Consideration” was never a single and it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Carpenter would have to be a big Rihanna fan if she’s familiar with that song! The former Disney star said that she loves “Consideration” so much because of its unique rhythm. Carpenter said the track was inspirational to her as a songwriter.
Rihanna and Carpenter are very different artists but Carpenter looks up to the “We Found Love” singer.
