Sam Raimi Admits ‘Spider-Man 4’ Is ‘Possible’ — ‘It Sounds Beautiful’
Marvel fans cannot get enough of Spider-Man. After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home, numerous fans expressed their desire to see more solo movies featuring the two actors as Peter Parker. And Sam Raimi, who directed the first Spider-Man trilogy, would be open to making Spider-Man 4 with Maguire.
Tobey Maguire returned in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’
In the months leading up to Spider-Man: No Way Home, rumors ran rampant on the internet about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film. And although Garfield and others repeatedly denied their involvement, the rumors were correct.
Toward the middle of the movie, Maguire and Garfield’s Peter Parkers appeared to help Tom Holland’s character. The three Spideys banded together to save the multiverse. But first, they wanted to save some of their most notorious villains. They were successful, and Maguire and Garfield’s characters returned home to their respective universes.
Fans lost their minds over Maguire and Garfield’s appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home. And now, they want to see Spider-Man 4 with Maguire.
Sam Raimi addressed rumors about ‘Spider-Man 4’
Sam Raimi returns to the superhero world with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And taking into account his direction with the Doctor Strange sequel and Tobey Maguire’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home, many fans are hoping that the two will reunite for Spider-Man 4.
While speaking with Fandango about Doctor Strange 2, Raimi discussed the possibility of making another Spider-Man film.
“I’ve come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups,” the director shared. “I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that.”
Raimi added, “But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”
Raimi originally had plans for Spider-Man 4 before the third movie premiered in 2007. However, he exited the project due to creative differences, and Sony canceled it altogether. But now, Raimi is open to returning to the franchise. And perhaps a fourth film is possible.
Kirsten Dunst is open to playing MJ again
Sam Raimi isn’t the only one who wants to make Spider-Man 4. Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, has expressed her desire to play MJ again. During an interview with Backstage, the actor said she wanted to be in the MCU.
“You know I’d join that multiverse!” Dunst revealed. “I feel like I’m the only one that hasn’t joined it. I’m like, ‘Please put me in. Put me in the lineup.’ I need to pay for my house and kids.”
Now, Tobey Maguire needs to jump onboard the Spider-Man 4 train, and maybe fans will get their wishes. But Marvel and Sony hold all of the power when it comes to the world of Spider-Man.
