Samuel L. Jackson doesn’t mind watching himself on the big screen, which isn’t always the case for other actors. But the Marvel star once had a strong message for his fellow peers who claimed they couldn’t stand to watch their own performances.

Watching their own performances is a problem that many actors have expressed discomfort with. But for the Pulp Fiction actor, he not only doesn’t mind watching himself, he also enjoys it. In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actor was asked about how strange it was seeing a younger him in Captain Marvel. In the film, Jackson is digitally de-aged to resemble a younger version of himself. However, this wasn’t strange at all for the actor, because he revealed he had no problem watching his old performances.

“I don’t know about my wife, but I watch my old movies all the time, so no,” Jackson told Kimmel. “If I’m channel-surfing and there’s something old of mine on that I like, I watch it. So I see that face.”

In a resurfaced interview on 60 Minutes, Jackson shared that he always wanted to watch his performances. Even back when he did plays.

“When I was doing theater in New York, I always wanted to see the play I was in with me in it,” Jackson said. “So, this was perfect for me. I get to watch my performances.”

Samuel L. Jackson once believed that actors who can’t watch their own performances should find another career

Jackson has been very candid regarding how he felt about other actors who can’t stand to see themselves on screen. He feels that being able to do so comes with the business.

“I always think that, ‘I can’t stand to watch myself,’ is some bulls***.’ It’s like, really? It’s a watch-me business,” he said. “And if you can’t watch it, why should people pay $13.50 to watch you do it?”

Speaking to Mercury News, Jackson also brought up the issue of actors not being able to watch themselves. For the Oscar-nominated actor, being able to watch himself doing the movies he enjoys is part of the fun of being an actor.

“I want to leave the theater going, ‘That was awesome! That was great! Ahh!’ That’s why people go to the movies, and I want to be part of that,” Jackson said. “I’ve always wanted to be in a King Kong movie, so there I am, standing in front of King Kong. Yeah, so I make trivial choices. But it should be that — it should be fun to do. People talk about, ‘I can’t stand to watch myself on screen.’ Well, get another job! You expect people to pay $12 or $15 to go and see you, and you don’t want to see it? I don’t think so. “
