Many couldn’t get into the film’s ridiculous premise, while others believe it is intentionally silly. The one thing everyone remembers from Snakes on a Plane is the performance from Jackson. His one line, “I’ve had it with these motherf***ing snakes on this motherf***ing plane” has become one of his most iconic lines.
Samuel L. Jackson proudly stands by ‘Snakes on a Plane’
While some criticize how ludicrous this movie is, Jackson is still proud of this movie all these years later. In 2020, Jackson responded to a Twitter user who mocked Jackson for thinking that Snakes on a Plane was a good idea.
“WTF does that even mean??! It’s a cult fave and your claim to fame is….????” Jackson wrote in his tweet. “For the record, it was a Great idea!! Those residuals [fire emoji].”
This opinion from Jackson remain consistent since the film came out. In 2013, Jackson appeared on The Graham Norton Show (shared via Looper) and shared similar sentiments toward the movie. He discussed how much fun he had on the set and that he would be open to returning for sequels.
“I stand by that movie steadfastly because I had a great time making that movie, and that’s what it was about for me,” Jackson said. “I stand by it. I’d do Snakes on a Plane 2 and 3!”
Samuel L. Jackson’s agents didn’t want him to do ridiculous movies
In a 2006 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson revealed that his agents didn’t want him to do Snakes on a Plane because of “how ridiculous it seemed.” However, Jackson said that was part of why he was excited to work on it. The actor knew it wouldn’t win any Oscars, but he wanted to make a movie where people could just have fun and not have to think about anything.
“It’s that kind of mindless, popcorn, you-didn’t-need-a-genius-to-write-this kind of script,” Jackson told EW. “Snakes on a Plane doesn’t speak volumes about s***. It just says people are still making movies that people are having fun going to watch…I’m doing movies for other people to go see and have some fun because I want to go see them and have some fun. It’s just that simple.”
Thankfully, Jackson did Snakes on a Plane and we are all the more fortunate. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix and HBO Max.
