In First Kill, Hook plays shy girl Juliette Fairmont. Although Juliette is a vampire, she ends up falling in love with a vampire hunter named Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis).

“When I was 16, I was a lot more outgoing than Juliette,” Hook told Popsugar about her role, “but now that as I’ve gotten older, I feel like I relate to her more than ever. I was actually really, really shy when I was little, and I feel like I’m kind of reverting back to that. I don’t know if it’s the pandemic or whatever it is, but I feel very close to her these days.”

She also added, “I feel like I kind of relate to her quirkiness and her little awkward moments as well. I honestly adore those kinds of roles in other movies and TV shows, so it was truly such a treat to play her.”

Speaking to The Wrap, Hook also shared that there were “a few moments” while filming where she “wasn’t able to speak up for myself.” Her co-star, Lewis, was there for her and “helped me break out of my shell.”

The relationship between Juliette and Calliope is representation for queer romance, and many fans on social media are excited. Hook herself has seen the reactions.

“We already, yeah, it’s kind of insane! People are already shipping us together and like making Caliette posts and stuff,” she told The Wrap. “It’s so weird, I feel like I’m always a little bit skeptical. I’m kind of like, ‘Well, I don’t need to think so big just yet. Like, we really don’t know.’ But I think based on how people have already responded, I don’t think I’m ready for what is to come.”

She also explained to Popsugar, “What we love more than anything about this show is that their queerness was normal. It was never questioned, and it was even celebrated. So I’m very excited for queer audiences to see themselves in these characters.”
