Sarah Ferguson to Appear on ‘Bridgerton’? Duchess Reveals Details
Regency London could welcome a new visitor among those who seek wealth, status, and social connections on Bridgerton. Royal family member Sarah Ferguson revealed she is very interested in mingling with characters such as Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton on the hit Netflix series, now streaming season 3.
Sarah Ferguson wants to bring royalty to ‘Bridgerton’
Saran, Duchess of York, is a big Bridgerton fan. Therefore, she told Platinum Magazine she would love to play a small role in season 4.
“I’ve asked my agent to get me on Bridgerton!” she revealed. “The set designs are incredible! I could be a long-lost friend for Penelope – I just have to be on Bridgerton!”
Whether or not the series’ producers will take Sarah up on her offer has yet to be determined. However, she would certainly bring a royalty boost to the wildly popular period drama.
The duchess’ passion for period storytelling extends to writing a Mills & Boon series based on her great aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott. However, the duchess’s credentials as a historical romance novel writer would bring a keen knowledge of historical period romances to Bridgerton.
Sarah Ferguson already has a passion for period romances such as ‘Bridgerton’
Since 2021, Sarah Ferguson has added two historical romance novels to her roster of successful published works. Thus far, the Duchess of York has written Her Heart for a Compass and A Most Intriguing Lady.
Sarah told People Magazine Her Heart for a Compass is inspired by her great aunt and her own personal journey. She wrote a story of a woman born into society who desires to break the mold.
“I wanted to write a novel for years and years and was searching for the right story,” the duchess revealed. “I was looking into my family history, and I was struck by the fact that we shared a name: Margaret, which is my middle name.
She adds, “Since very little more information was easily found about her, it seemed she would be an ideal vehicle for me to weave my story around. Thus, the book refers to journeys Lady Margaret makes to Ireland and America, which in fact reflects my own personal journeys.”

Taking on a role in the period drama Bridgerton wouldn’t be too far of a stretch for Sarah Ferguson. She already has a handful of acting credits to her name. Thus far, she has appeared on Friends, The Vicar of Dibley, The Cat That Looked at a King, and An American in Austen.
On Friends, Sarah played herself as the cast traveled to England to celebrate the wedding of Ross and Emily (David Schwimmer and Helen Baxendale). She famously took a selfie with Joey in “The One With Ross’ Wedding: Part 1.”
In 1999, Sarah left her tiara behind in the Comic Relief Special, The Vicar of Dibley. There, she starred alongside Johnny Depp and Emma Chambers.
For The Cat That Looked at a King, the duchess voiced the character of the queen. The live-action/animation short film was released in 2004 on the DVD of the 1964 classic Mary Poppins. Finally, in An American in Austen, Sarah played ‘The Duchess’ in the Netherfield Ball scene from the Pride and Prejudice adaptation.
Sarah Ferguson has written several books for children and adults. She lives with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, and they have two children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
