Known for playing the title role on the TV show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s not done with Buffy Summers. Years after Gellar retired her stakes as Buffy, she’s still looking to her TV counterpart for life lessons.

Taking a risk and leaving a role on a popular soap opera, Gellar signed on for the lead part in a supernatural TV show on the now-defunct network, The WB. A series about a teen who fights vampires, demons, and other forms of evil in the fictional town of Sunnydale, California, Buffy is a force of good.

The series quickly gained popularity and soon became one of the leading shows on TV. Gellar became famous for her role as evil-fighting Buffy. After seven seasons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended in 2003.

But more than 15 years later, the program has a large and dedicated fan base. It’s arguably Gellar’s most popular role to date besides her turn in Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer

While fighting evil as Buffy on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar would experience major changes in her personal life. She met her future husband and fellow actor, Freddie Prinze Jr., on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer.

After a few years of being friends, the two would strike up a romantic relationship in 2000 before getting married in 2002.

In 2009, Gellar and Prinze became parents for the first time when they welcomed daughter, Charlotte Grace Prinze. Their family grew by one in 2012 when their son, Rocky James Prinze, entered the world.

Today, Gellar and Prinze live in Los Angeles with their children. And even though they’ve been co-stars in a number of movies, Prinze and Gellar may never work together again. They always make sure one parent is at home with Charlotte and Rocky while the other’s filming a movie or TV show.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. used ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ to teach their son about gender equality

In an October 2019 interview with Parade, Gellar opened up about a parenting moment involving Buffy the Vampire Slayer

“A couple months ago maybe, my son was talking about, he was 6 at the time, and he’s talking about how boys are strong and boys kick butt. And my daughter and my husband instantly go, ‘You know girls can do that too,’ and he’s like, ‘But not the same,’” Gellar said.

She continued, saying Prinze then proceeded to show their son some of her fight scenes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer

“My husband Googled a YouTube clip of, like, Buffy’s finest fighting moments,” Gellar said before adding, “And it was so cute because my son’s eyes got so wide and he said, ‘Mama, you could do that?’”

Although Gellar’s kids have yet to watch her fight evil in a full episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the actor is preparing for the day it happens. Gellar’s kids are too young for the show, the actor remarked in a separate interview.

For now, it’s a scene or two of Buffy teaching lessons about life, not a Buffy the Vampire Slayer marathon in the Gellar-Prinze household.
