Is Saturday Night Live New Tonight, Sept. 7?
The calendar has flipped over to September, and that usually means new Saturday Night Live episodes are on the way. The combination of SNL’s 50th season and an election year has also created the most anticipation for a new Saturday Night Live season in recent memory.
Saturday Night Live schedule for Sept. 7
Saturday Night Live will not air a new episode tonight, September 7. The 50th season of the sketch comedy show won’t start until September 28.
Instead, NBC will reair an episode of Saturday Night Live during the show’s regular 11:30 p.m. ET timeslot. Tune in to revisit the season 49 episode hosted by Emma Stone with musical guest Noah Kahn.
The episode was a memorable one for Stone as she entered the famous Five Timers Club. The 35-year-old Oscar winner is the youngest celebrity to host Saturday Night Live, something highlighted when Tina Fey and Candice Bergen made cameos during the episode.
Saturday Night Live will return with some cast changes
When Saturday Night Live does return for the season 50 premiere later this month, things will look a little different around Studio 8H.
The SNL cast is already one of the largest in the show’s history. However, repertory player Punkie Johnson (who made history when she joined) and featured player Molly Kearney will not return. Both performers found it difficult to make a noticeable impact on SNL despite a willingness to play a range of characters.
As of now, Lorne Michaels and SNL have not announced any new additions to the cast. Maya Rudolph will be back in a guest role as Vice President Kamala Harris. The show is still on the search for an actor to play Tim Walz after Steve Martin turned down the role.
Perhaps most importantly, a host for the season 50 premiere has yet to be announced. Regardless of who is chosen, the excitement around season 50 and SNL’s election coverage should bring a palpable buzz to the show.
Saturday Night Live Season 50 premieres on Sept. 28 on NBC.
