There’s a huge trend in hip hop currently with rappers furthering their education outside of the music business. Several entertainers have attended Harvard Business School, including super-producer Swizz Beatz. Megan Thee Stallion recently walked across the stage to get her college degree. And now, Saweetie is embarking on a new career in education.

Saweetie will be a guest lecturer at USC

The cousin of Bring it On star Gabrielle Union will transition from performer to professor. Madame Noire reports that Saweetie will teach two classes for students at USC studying to get their bachelor’s degrees in entrepreneurial studies. Saweetie will teach courses in Venture Feasibility and Venture Initiation as a guest lecturer. She’s responsible for formulating her own lesson plans as part of the deal.

She spoke about how exciting the opportunity is during a recent interview. “I would love to teach about branding and marketing in the modern-day,” Madame Noire reports that she told iHeart Radio at the Z 100 Jingle Ball. “It’s important for businesses to evolve with modern consumers, generation Z, the millennials. They’re the people spending the money.”

Saweetie will also serve as a guest speaker for USC’s four-week program for high school students. The rapper has been vocal about the importance of education in her life.

The “Icy” rapper is a graduate of the famed university

Saweetie is a familiar face on the USC campus. She graduated from USC in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Saweetie has put what she learned to work by the partnership deals she’s taken part in recently with MAC Cosmetics, McDonald’s, Kiss Colors, and Crocs.

For Saweetie, she describes the McDonald’s deal as a “match made in heaven.” She teamed up with the fast-food chain and created her own meal, the “Saweetie meal.” The popular promo deal was comprised of a Big Mac, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium World Famous Fries, a medium Sprite, Tangy BBQ Sauce, and her own special “Saweetie’ N Sour” sauce.

“The whole process was pretty much a collaboration,” she told Forbes at the time, per Madame Noire. “What I loved about the McDonald’s team was that they really studied my personality and my brand, so all of their suggestions just really worked…The fact that my favorite sauce is named after me. Like, I put this on anything I order from McDonald’s.”

The move comes amid Megan Thee Stallion’s graduation from Texas Southern

Saweetie isn’t the only female emcee getting her education. Fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion recently obtained her bachelor’s degree from Texas Southern University in Healthcare Administration. She plans to open a healthcare business in her hometown of Houston, Texas.

It wasn’t easy juggling academics and a thriving rap career. But Megan credits her late mother and grandmother for inspiring her to do so.

Now that Megan has her degree, others are inspired to return to college. Dr. Monica Rasmus, program director for Texas Southern University’s Health Administration program, told TMZ that there’s been a major influx of re-enrollment. She says it’s all a result of Megan’s recent graduation.

Megan has also made a major contribution to her now alma mater. She donated $25k, all of which she made from a deal with Fashionnova.
