Saweetie has been the name on everyone’s lips lately — figuratively and literally. The Bay Area-bred rapper launched a new celebrity meal with McDonald’s and is gearing up for the release of her debut album Pretty B—- Music. She’s also been in the spotlight in recent years thanks to her highly publicized relationship with Migos rapper Quavo.
Saweetie’s relationship with Quavo
Rumors began to swirl in the summer of 2018 that Saweetie was dating Migos frontman Quavo. She confirmed their relationship later that year, which all started in her Instagram DMs.
Quavo gave his version of the story in a July 2020 interview with GQ. “I seen her on my [Instagram] Explore page,” he recalled. “I was like, ‘Damn! Who is this?’ So I did my research and I DM her. I was like, ‘How she going to call herself icy and she don’t talk to me?’” he said, alluding to Saweetie’s 2017 breakout hit “ICY GRL.” “So I slid in her DM,” he continued. “I told her, ‘You an icy girl, you need a glacier boy.’”
The two became a hip-hop power couple for nearly two years. But in March 2021, they called it quits. “I’m single,” Sweetie wrote in a tweet. “I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character. Presents don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.”
Saweetie is a Cancer
Saweetie didn’t spend much longer mourning her relationship in March. “I emotionally checked out a long time ago and have walked away with a deep sense of peace and freedom,” she said in another tweet. “Excited for this new chapter of elevation.”
For Saweetie, the ability to emotionally check out might have come hard to her: she was born on July 2, 1993, making her a Cancer. Cancers are water signs known for their emotional volatility.
Saweetie has often mentioned her zodiac sign, both in songs and in real life. “What’s your sign? I’m a Cancer / Body built like a dancer,” she rapped in Loui’s 2021 song “Talkin’ ‘Bout.”
Saweetie’s zodiac compatibility with Quavo
As a Cancer, Saweetie loves those who are closest to her especially hard. She spoke about how she treats her loved ones in a February 2021 interview with iHeartRadio.
“The most Cancer quality I have is I love my friends and my family,” she said honestly. “I love throwing parties with them, I love feeding them, I just love my friends and family.”
Saweetie was then asked about Quavo’s qualities as an Aries, a noted stubborn fire sign. Unsurprisingly, the opposite natures of Cancers and Aries generally don’t bode well for romantic relationships.
“My mom’s an Aries, and Quavo’s an Aries,” Saweetie laughed, trying to contain her true thoughts. “They’re very strong-willed people … They like to have it their way.”
