Scarlett Johansson Has ‘Been Asking’ to Be a Disney Princess ‘for the Past 20 Years’ but It Hasn’t Happened Yet
Disney says they make dreams come true. OK, maybe that’s just a slogan but Scarlett Johansson really hopes it applies to not only a theme park visit but acting roles too.
The 35-year-old Oscar-nominated actress wants to play a Disney princess. In fact, it’s been a dream she’s had since her teenage years. Ahead, learn more about Johansson’s obsession with all things Disney and her chances of one day making her dream of becoming a Disney princess a reality.
Scarlett Johansson says being a Disney princess ‘is probably not going to happen’
In a 2016 interview with The New York Times, Johansson revealed her longtime dream of playing a Disney princess.
“Right now I think we [she and her daughter Rose whom Johansson shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac] both share the dream that I will someday be a Disney princess,” she told the publication. “But it’s probably not going to happen. I’ve been asking for that job for the past 20 years, and nobody has booked me.”
Johansson might have her doubts but given her impressive roster of performances — Oscar-winning films Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story to name a few — and other factors, she might actually one day live out her dream of being a Disney princess.
Johansson voiced Kaa in ‘The Jungle Book’
Remember the 2016 version of The Jungle Book? The voice of Kaa, the python who is a friend and confidant of Mowgli’s, is voiced by none other than Johansson.
Again, another connection to Disney that could make her a frontrunner for a future role as a Disney princess.
She already has a working relationship with Disney
Johansson has played superhero Black Widow in Marvel Studios’ Avengers movies since she first appeared in Iron Man 2 back in 2010. Next up, the actress is starring in a stand-alone feature film about her superhero character who — spoiler — died in Avengers: Endgame. The eponymous film, Black Widow, is due to hit theaters on April 24, 2020.
But what does Johansson’s character Black Widow have to do with Disney? Marvel Entertainment (and Marvel Studios) is owned by The Walt Disney Co., so the actress already has her foot in the door so to speak. The powers that be at Disney likely have a rapport with Johansson that one day could help her land a gig as a Disney princess.
She and fiancé Colin Jost are ‘Disney-heads’
Johansson is engaged to Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost whom she’s been with since at least 2017 when they attended their first public event together. Jost’s younger brother, Casey Jost, told Page Six in Feb. 2020 that Johansson and her future husband both share a love of all things Disney.
“They’re both, like, Disney-heads,” Casey told the outlet when asked about wedding gifts he might get for his brother and future sister-in-law. He went on to say the couple doesn’t have a wedding registry but if they did it’d probably feature lots of Disney themed products.
For now, we’ll prepare to see Johansson revisit her Avengers character in Black Widow, set to hit theaters on April 24, 2020. Until then, we’ll imagine which Disney princess the actress might play.
