Scarlett Johansson Slams AI Video of Celebs Protesting Kanye West
Scarlett Johansson is speaking out about a viral video showing celebrities wearing anti-Kanye “Ye” West T-shirts after he promoted and sold swastika T-shirts on his now-shuttered Yeezy website. Johansson’s beef? The video is AI-created. Meaning she—and other celebrities depicted in it—didn’t actually participate.
Scarlett Johansson calls out AI-generated Kanye protest video
After the viral video showing Jewish celebs including the Black Widow star, David Schwimmer, Adam Sandler, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Jerry Seinfeld, among others, wearing anti-Kanye T-shirts surfaced, Johansson spoke out publicly.
“It has been brought to my attention by family members and friends, that an A.I.-generated video featuring my likeness, in response to an antisemitic view, has been circulating online and gaining traction,” Johansson began her statement to People.
“I am a Jewish woman who has no tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech of any kind,” she continued. “But I also firmly believe that the potential for hate speech multiplied by A.I. is a far greater threat than any one person who takes accountability for it. We must call out the misuse of A.I., no matter its messaging, or we risk losing a hold on reality.”
While some of the celebs seen in the video have addressed West’s antisemitic remarks and the T-shirt sales—Isla Fisher and Schwimmer took to Instagram to comment—they, like the rest of the Hollywood stars depicted in the AI-generated video presumably weren’t involved or gave their consent.
West’s website shut down on Feb. 11 after selling swastika T-shirts
Johansson’s response comes after West, 47, made antisemitic comments on social media and promoted his Yeezy site in a 30-second Super Bowl ad with one item available for sale, a $20 white T-shirt with a swastika.
When the ad initially aired there were more items available on the site, powered by Shopify. However that quickly changed and the T-shirt became the only item for sale. Shopify shut down the Yeezy website on Feb. 11, 2025, saying the site “did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify.”
West’s Super Bowl ad, which featured him in a dentist’s chair filming on his phone, wasn’t broadcast nationally. It aired in local markets during the Super Bowl before being broadcast again after the game.
The controversy comes just a week after West’s stunt with Biana Censori at the Grammy Awards.
