Gilmore Girls fans were delighted to see Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham, as Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore, back together on the small screen again. While the famous on-screen couple didn’t link back up for a second revival, they did reprise their roles for a Walmart partnership. While fans primarily loved the flirty nature of their interaction, they didn’t get to see the couple kiss during the brief ad spot. One actor says he campaigned for a smooch, but the idea was shut down.

Scott Patterson explains why Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore didn’t kiss

Scott Patterson, who currently hosts a podcast all about his time on Gilmore Girls, recently opened up about filming the Walmart commercial. During a recent episode of I Am All In, The actor claims he tried to sneak in a peck. He said he hoped it would make fans happy to see a bit of affection between the couple that many considered the endgame duo of the series. The team behind the ad spot didn’t go for it. Patterson said the commercial’s creative team took a “less is more” approach to the short scene.

While we can understand why Patterson would suggest a peck to send home the message that Luke and Lorelai were still very much in love, the direction the commercial took managed to capture the essence of Stars Hollow perfectly. Luke and Lorelai were fun and flirty, both before they started dating and after they became a romantic couple. Still, they weren’t all that PDA-heavy. The lack of a kiss brought us back to the show’s beginning, perfectly capturing the couple’s love languages.

Do you know how long Luke and Lorelai have been together?

While Luke and Lorelai didn’t kiss during the short Walmart partnership, there were other clues that their relationship is going strong years after they said, “I do.” Patterson pointed out that the duo wore wedding rings during the short commercial, indicating their partnership is alive and well. Their body language also shows their love is as strong as ever.
