Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Once Felt God Sent Him Cassie to Save Bad Boy Records
Sean “Diddy” Combs and Cassie were business partners before they were a couple. Diddy took the young artist under his wing and credited her for salvaging his record label at a time when it needed saving.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs felt Cassie was 1 of 2 artists who helped Bad Boy Records
Cassie initially managed to generate a buzz for her music without the support of Bad Boy Records. Back when she was an aspiring singer, she posted her song “Me and You” on the old social media platform Myspace. “Me and You” gained such a massive following at the time that Diddy eventually heard it while at a club. He immediately wanted to know who was behind the growing song.
She was eventually discovered through Ryan Leslie, who convinced her that music might’ve been her calling instead of modeling.
“I met Ryan and we recorded like 5 records and it was just for fun. Then it turned into ‘Let’s make some demos, you know put some music out’ put it on Myspace. And it went from there, it was really really organic,” she said in a 2007 interview with The Urban Daily.
It was through Leslie that Cassie eventually connected with Diddy. During their time together, Cassie confided that she learned a lot from Diddy as a mentor.
“He always great advice,” she said. “In the beginning with the first album, everything was moving so quickly and I was moving around so quickly and bouncing from country to country, I never had the opportunity to really talk to him. We just signed and got on the road. Up to now, when we have conversations about the past three-four years and how I automatically changed and everything, he would say patience is what helps you. If you really take your time and wait and work hard and observe and learn, just take your time at the end of the day it will all work out, cause your time will come.”
Bad Boys didn’t only change Cassie’s circumstances, however. Cassie also had a hand in affecting Bad Boys itself. According to Diddy, many felt the record label’s popularity was beginning to wane over the years. Bad Boy artists like Cassie, however, came along and helped rejuvenate its health.
“God sent me two new artists, Cassie and Yung Joc,” Diddy once said, according to the Irish Examiner. “I have two records in the top ten and on the rhythmic chart we have the number 1 and number 2 records with Cassie and Yung Joc. There were times over the last few years, that the industry counted us out and now it’s a big week. We are the only Boutique label still standing.”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Cassie quickly ended up in a relationship
Cassie and Diddy first went public with their relationship in 2012. But they’d been romantically linked as far back as 2007. According to court documents, even Diddy’s pursuit of Cassie might’ve foreshadowed their chaotic relationship.
The Guardian reported that Diddy aggressively pursued the singer, forcing a kiss on Cassie on her 21st birthday. From there, the two became a couple that had more than its fair share of ups and downs. It was only recently that Cassie revealed the abuse she endured while she was with the music mogul.
Despite how long they were together for, Cassie asserted that marriage was never on the table.
“You know what’s cool about Puff is that he is, and he does want to understand marriage,” Cassie once told Hot 97. “But, we have, you know, a certain type of relationship, and it just works the way it is.”
“I believe in marriage with the right situation,” she added. “But, I’ve seen a lot of people get married and break up in the term that I’ve been in my relationship, you know what I mean? You can’t really put a tag on it. Of course, everybody looks at marriage as something solid and important.”
