Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Once Opened Up About Jay-Z Cheating on Beyoncé: ‘He Did What He Had to Do’
Hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has quite a long past, which all came unraveled after his arrest in 2024. At one point, everybody wanted to be friends with Diddy, and he and rapper Jay-Z were reportedly pretty close (although Jay-Z has since denied this).
Diddy once spoke out about Jay-Z’s longtime relationship with Beyoncé and gave his thoughts on how both of the Carters handled the infidelity struggles in the public eye. Spoiler alert: He called Beyoncé a “genius” for the way she dealt with everything.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have handled their marital problems privately and seemingly came out stronger on the other side after what they went through. Although Jay-Z says that he and Diddy aren’t friends, Andy Cohen addressed Diddy as a “close friend” of Jay-Z’s during a 2017 interview with Diddy on Watch What Happens Live!. Cohen asked Diddy what his “reaction” was to Jay-Z getting candid about his infidelity.
“That’s what music gives you the power to do,” Diddy said, referring to Jay-Z’s song “Family Feud,” where he opened up about the situation. “Once you’re ready to share with your fans and the world, nobody can judge it. They have to accept what it is. I thought it was dope.”
Diddy later praised Jay-Z for handling the situation the way he did after the release of Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” album. “Beyoncé … tackled something that a lot of women have had to go through, and also Jay, on the other side, he did what he had to do [regarding discussing it through “Family Feud.”]
Diddy also praised the couple for keeping their family together and being able to “weather the storm” when things were not going well.

In late 2024, things took a turn for Jay-Z when he was named in a lawsuit detailing an alleged sexual assault that took place after the MTV Video Music Awards more than 20 years ago. Jay-Z vehemently denied the allegations and requested that the victim’s name be made public.
Regarding his friendship with Diddy, Jay-Z’s attorney said that the relationship between the two men was only ever professional, and that Jay-Z does not consider Diddy to be a good friend. Although that goes against how Andy Cohen addressed Diddy in the 2017 clip, there isn’t any recent information to point to a close friendship between the two. However, they have been known to support each other’s music through the years.
