Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Once Said Jay-Z Was Part of His ‘Inner Circle’ — But Jay-Z Denies a Friendship
Hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs found himself in some serious trouble after he was arrested in 2024 on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. Diddy has remained in jail ever since, and most of his celebrity friends have been quick to ditch him.
In late 2024, Jay-Z denied that he and Diddy ever had a close friendship. However, a resurfaced interview suggests that Diddy believed he and Jay-Z were once very close, as the mogul even discussed buying gifts for Jay-Z’s twins shortly after their birth.

In late 2024, a couple months after Diddy’s arrest, Jay-Z was named in a sexual assault lawsuit that alleged he had assaulted a teenage girl after the 2003 Video Music Awards; Diddy was named as well. Jay-Z vehemently denied the claims, and his attorney said that he and Diddy were not close.
“Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case or Mr. Combs,” Spiro said. “They knew each other professionally for a number of years … There is no closer association between any of them. That’s also a matter of fiction,” Jay-Z’s attorney said (Jay-Z’s real name is Shawn Carter).
But in a resurfaced interview, Diddy says just the opposite. Access Hollywood asked Diddy back in 2017 about his friendship with Jay-Z and the birth of Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s twins, Rumi and Sir, and Diddy made a clear indication that he and the rapper were close.
“It’s a big moment for our whole crew, our whole inner circle,” Diddy said of Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcoming the two kids. Diddy, who has a set of twins himself, then went into detail about the gifts he planned to buy the kids, saying he was going to wait a few weeks until the dust settled before surprising the couple’s then-babies with some new things.

Once the allegations hit Diddy, most celebrities backed away from him. Jay-Z and Beyoncé were no different. Beyoncé has yet to speak on Diddy’s situation, and Jay-Z has only spoken out about it in reference to himself and denying any long-term friendship with the Bad Boy Records founder.
Diddy is currently awaiting trial in jail, and his lawyers have aggressively denied all of the allegations. Diddy’s trial is set to begin in May, and it’s safe to say Jay-Z likely will not be there to show any support.
