Federal agents arrested hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in September 2024 following the Homeland Security raids on two of his properties in March 2024. His arrest follows his ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, pressing charges against Combs in 2023 for abuse and sex trafficking. Now, we’re looking back at Combs’s talk with Ellen DeGeneres. Here’s what he once said about how relationships can “get ugly” while referring to Chris Brown and Rihanna.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs once talked about how relationships can ‘get ugly’ when referencing Chris Brown

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest in September 2024 shed light on his wild parties and past interviews. His ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, pressed charges in 2023. She claimed that Combs assaulted, raped, and coerced her into sex with male prostitutes. She and Combs settled out of court. Later, in 2024, leaked footage from a hotel showed Combs hitting Ventura and dragging her through the hallway.

Now, we’re looking back at a 15-year-old clip from The Ellen DeGeneres Show where Combs entered as a guest. Ellen DeGeneres asked Combs why he allowed Chris Brown and Rihanna to gather at his home in Miami after Brown physically assaulted Rihanna.

“I’m the type of person that I don’t cast a stone, don’t cast a judgment on anybody,” Combs said. “So, if a friend, or friends, ask me for a favor, then I’m going to be there for a favor as long as I know that the energy of the favor is positive for two people to sit down and talk about a situation that they’re in.”

DeGeneres doubled down and stated that it’s never OK for a man to hit a woman. Combs agreed but also noted that DeGeneres and others didn’t know the exact situation Brown and Rihanna were dealing with.

“I think that we all have to be honest with ourselves as adults,” Combs added. “And people have been in relationships, you know. We know sometimes those relationships get ugly. And sometimes, it doesn’t come out into the forefront the way this one has come out. It’s a lot of stones being thrown, and we don’t know exactly what’s going on.”

Chris Brown was spotted at one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ White Parties. A clip posted to TikTok shows Brown dancing at the party amongst other famous guests. Brown appears to have a great time as other partygoers surround him.

Combs held White Parties at his home every year from 1998 to 2009. The dress code — all white — was strictly enforced, and guests were not allowed into the party if they didn’t abide by it. Combs once explained that he enforced the dress code to “strip away everyone’s image and put us all in the same color and on the same level.”

Combs’ parties remain at the center of his lawsuit. He allegedly held sexually explicit “freak-off” after-parties that followed his typical celebrity gatherings.

An insider said how Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs felt about the video of him hurting Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura

In May 2024, a video taken in 2016 from the hallway of a hotel shows Sean “Diddy” Combs hurting his then-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. An insider told the New York Post that Combs viewed the video as a “distraction” from the Homeland Security raids that took place a few months beforehand.

“He’s incensed,” the inside said of Combs. “Especially about the video. He insists it doesn’t tell the full story about what happened. Not that he’s excusing it, but he says that it’s a selected video.”

The insider in Combs’ inner circle said Combs feels like ” there was an agenda in releasing the video when it was released. But ultimately, he knows that his big concern is the raids on his house; the Cassie video is just a distraction.”
