‘Seeking Sister Wife’ Fans Think the Davis Family Is Giving Major ‘Cult Vibes’
After audiences watched the season 4 premiere of Seeking Sister Wife, they had major concerns about how Nick Davis controls his wives, April and Jennifer Davis. Some fans think Nick is giving off “cult vibes” and are concerned about Nick’s new potential wife.
Who is the Davis family?
On the June 6 episode of Seeking Sister Wife, TLC introduced fans to the Davis family from Aurora, CO. 38-year-old Nick has been interested in plural marriage for over 15 years. When April was in college, she met Nick; the two have been together for over 14 years. 24-year-old Jennifer has been in a relationship with Nick since she was 19-years-old.
Jennifer revealed that since they couldn’t all get legally married, she married April. She said, “We changed our last names to match Nick’s last name to show others how committed we are to this relationship.”
Also, there’s the sleeping arrangement. While they claim not to be polyamorous, Nick sleeps with both April and Jennifer in the same bed every night.
Nick’s wives are the ‘breadwinners’
The Davis family does polygamy differently than most families on the show. Both of the women work, while Nick stays at home so he can do “research” on subjects he’s interested in. April says, “I pride myself on being a breadwinner, and Jenny’s right there with me.”
Nick tells the cameras, “If you look at a chessboard, the King doesn’t really move much. ‘Cause he just moves a square at a time. Meanwhile, the Queen, she’s all over the board. The Queen’s got all of the power. The King just kinda holds court.”
April explained, “The thing that Nick is able to do is to read and learn and decipher things that I would never be able to do.” Jennifer says, “The passion that he has for learning, and growth and development and research, it’s definitely a passion that we share.”
‘Seeking Sister Wife’ fans think the Davis family is giving off ‘cult vibes’
After watching the premiere of Seeking Sister Wife, many fans went to Reddit to express their opinions on the Davis family. One fan wrote, “I got cult vibes.” They continue, “He hangs out at home all day reading sh** on the internet while the wives go to work and let their man think for them?”
Another Reddit user agreed, “I’m convinced Nick is trying to start his own cult. Those women are obviously brainwashed the way members of a cult are. If you carefully listen to everything they say there’s no critical thinking going on or any negative comments about anything related to their husband… It’s all perfection according to them. They remind me of the Manson Family but without all the murdering.”
Many Seeking Sister Wife fans are concerned about how young the potential new wife, Danielle, is compared to Nick. He is 17 years older than the 21-year-old, and some fans find it “predatory” that all of Nick’s wives come into the family as teenagers or as women in their early 20s.
