‘Seeking Sister Wife’: Garrick Reveals He’d Move to Another Country to Be With Roberta

Garrick and Dannielle finalized their divorce on the March 29 episode of Seeking Sister Wife. But her parents still have concerns about their decision to embrace plural marriage. Garrick’s desire to immediately have children with Roberta and willingness to move his family to another country to be with his second wife also have them concerned.

Garrick and Dannielle’s marriage is over — legally, that is. On the March 29 episode of TLC’s Seeking Sister Wife, the Merrifields finalized their divorce. It was an emotional moment for the couple, who had to officially split up so that their future sister wife, Roberta, will be able to move to the United States.

It’s a dramatic move that has some members of Dannielle’s family deeply concerned. Their fears for Dannielle’s future only increased when Garrick revealed that he planned to have a child with his new wife — and that the couple was considering moving to another country if Roberta’s visa wasn’t approved.

Dannielle’s family isn’t sure about her decision to live in a plural marriage

In the latest installment of Seeking Sister Wife, Garrick and Dannielle headed to court to end their marriage. A tearful Dannielle told the judge that she believed her marriage of nearly 13 years was “irretrievably broken.” Garrick agreed.

Garrick’s decision to embrace plural marriage has already caused an apparently permanent split with his family. Dannielle’s family seems somewhat more accepting of her choice, but they still have big concerns.

Dannielle’s mom Luann admitted that at first, she thought the idea of plural marriage was “strange” and “not good.”

Meanwhile, her dad Scott was focused on practical questions. “I do have some concerns with legal matters and making sure [Garrick and Dannielle’s children] Geremiah and Solomon are taken care of, and Dannielle.”

“You don’t have any guarantee that you’ll have anything,” Luann added. “What if he just decides to leave you for Roberta? And then you’re left alone with nothing.”

Despite her family’s reservations, Garrick and Dannielle went forward with the divorce so that Roberta — who is from Brazil and speaks only Portuguese — will eventually be able to come to the U.S. on a K-1 visa

After meeting with the judge, Garrick and Dannielle headed out to dinner with her parents, brother Sam, and sister-in-law Samantah. That was when the couple dropped another bombshell on her family. Garrick revealed he hopes to have a child with Roberta as soon as possible.

“How do you think that’s going to affect you?” Samantha asked. Dannielle admitted it would “be hard at first.”

But the idea of Garrick and Roberta having a baby was nothing compared to the next revelation. Dannielle’s brother asked what would happen if Roberta’s visa wasn’t approved.

“That could cause us as a family to move to a whole other country,” Garrick replied. That answer that didn’t go over well with Dannielle’s family, especially her sister-in-law, who got upset at the idea of Garrick and Dannielle moving away.

Dannielle and Garrick will have to wait between 6 and 12 months for Roberta’s visa to be approved. At that point, she’ll be able to come to the U.S. and marry Garrick. In the meantime, Garrick and Dannielle have planned another trip to Mexico to spend time with Roberta, a teaser for the April 5 episode revealed.

Garrick plans to spend all eight nights of the Mexico vacation with Roberta. Dannielle’s agreed to this arrangement, but dealing with the reality of it is another matter.

“Seeing Garrick kissing her and hugging her, it’s a little bit awkward,” she says.

Seeking Sister Wife airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on TLC. New episodes are available to stream the same day on discovery+.
