Like most celebrities, Selena Gomez often fields questions about her workout routine. The multi-hyphenate star stays busy with her acting gigs and singing career, but somehow still finds the time to get in exercise. However, she isn’t what you would call a gym rat either.

Despite this, she stays diligent in her workouts as she has found they greatly help with her mental health. Gomez landed her first big acting gig with Disney at the age of 15. She played the role of Alex Russo on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012. During her time on the show, Gomez also branched out into the music industry. In 2009, her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, released their first studio album, Kiss, & Tell. While impressive in its own right, this was just the beginning for Gomez.

Since her days on the Disney Channel, Gomez has found great success in Hollywood. Gomez’s latest acting gig has been on the Hulu original series Only Murders in the Building. Gomez plays the main character Mabel and stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Along with acting, Gomez has also stayed busy with her music career. Her latest full album, Rarewas released in January 2020. While Gomez certainly has a lot going on, she still finds time to get a good workout in, not just to keep fit for acting and performing on stage. For her, the greatest reason to exercise is for the mental benefits it provides.

Selena Gomez finds her workout routine extremely important for her mental health

While touring has been at a standstill for the pop star, Gomez has been getting her sweat on throughout the pandemic. In June 2021, the singer posted a montage of her workout routine to Tik Tok. Gomez can be seen with her workout buddy doing a set of donkey kicks, leg raises, and overhead dumbbell presses. Along with freestyle workouts, Gomez told Marie Claire that she likes to complete follow-along workout videos she finds on YouTube.

While Gomez’s workouts are well documented online, she isn’t exactly a fitness enthusiast. In a video with Vogue, she revealed her go-to daily routine, calling exercise “the most important part.” “As miserable as it can be for me, I think it helps me mentally,” Gomez said. She noted the physical benefits, too, but emphasize that for her, it’s about getting “in a good headspace.”
