Each year, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry calculates the top performing artists, singles, and albums around the world. Seventeen ranked in the top 10 spots on IFPI’s 2021 Global Album Sales Chart and 2021 Global Artist Chart. In doing so, the K-pop group became the highest-charting K-pop act to appear on IFPI’s 2021 Global Album Sales Chart.

Seventeen appeared twice on the IFPI Global Album Sales Chart

IFPI announced the placements for the 2021 Global Album Sales Chart on March 1. Adele’s album 30 ranked at the top of the global music chart.

Seventeen’s EP Attacca placed at No. 3 on IFPI’s 2021 Global Album Sales Chart, and the band’s EP Your Choice was ranked in the No. 8 spot.

The top 10 spots on IFPI’s 2021 Global Album Sales Chart are listed below:

  5. =, Ed Sheeran
  6. Justice, Justin Bieber

  10. Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Taylor Swift

Following the release of the chart, IFPI wrote, “The Global Album Sales Chart highlights the continuing importance of Asia, particularly sales of physical albums, with K-Pop stars BTS (#4) and SEVENTEEN (who featured twice in the chart at #3 and #7) featuring prominently, while Japanese group Snow Man’s first studio album Snow Mania S1 charted at #9.”

The K-pop group also appeared on IFPI’s 2021 Global Artist Chart

On Feb. 24, IFPI released the rankings of the 2021 Global Artist Chart. BTS ranked at the top of the chart, winning the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award. Seventeen ranked at No. 9 on the chart.

In an article about the 2021 Global Artist Chart, IFPI wrote, “In the latest chart, BTS were joined by fellow K-pop superstars SEVENTEEN who made their first chart appearance at #9, demonstrating the growing popularity of K-Pop with music fans across the globe.”

BTS are managed by Big Hit Music and Seventeen are managed by Pledis Entertainment. Both Big Hit Music and Pledis Entertainment operate under HYBE’s music division, HYBE Labels.

Seventeen’s success has grown over the years

Seventeen debuted with Pledis Entertainment in 2015, and the band renewed its contracts with the company in 2021. The K-pop group has 13 members: S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon, Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, Seungkwan, Jun, Hoshi, The8, and Dino.

Since their debut, Seventeen’s worldwide success has steadily grown with each release. Your Choice was released in June 2021 and reached No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Attacca, the band’s most recent album, was released in October 2021. It exceeded the success of Your Choice by reaching No. 13 on the Billboard chart.
