SEVENTEEN Will Put on an Online Concert on Jan. 23
January is a busy month for SEVENTEEN and their fan base, CARATs. The K-pop group kicked off the year with a performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Jan. 6.
On Jan. 23, SEVENTEEN will put on an online concert for fans. The concert will feature an extensive setlist and is titled “2021 SEVENTEEN ONLINE CONCERT <IN-COMPLETE>.”
Background about SEVENTEEN
SEVENTEEN debuted in 2015 under Pledis Entertainment. The group consists of 13 members: S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon, Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, Seungkwan, Jun, Hoshi, The8, and Dino.
The 13 members are split up into three different sub-units: hip-hop, vocal, and performance. Each sub-unit has its own leader, and the members are known as “self-producing idols” for their dedication to producing and writing their music together.
S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Vernon are part of the hip-hop unit, and S.Coups is the leader of SEVENTEEN as well as the hip-hop unit. Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, and Seungkwan are members of the vocal unit with Woozi acting as the vocal unit leader. Jun, Hoshi, The8, and Dino make up the performance unit and Hoshi is the sub-unit’s leader.
SEVENTEEN will put on an online concert
Pledis Entertainment is a subsidiary of Big Hit Entertainment. On Dec. 31, 2020, Big Hit Entertainment put on “2021 New Year’s Eve Live.” The event marked the first time artists under Big Hit Labels performed in a joint concert.
The concert featured Lee Hyun, Bumzu, NU’EST, BTS, GFRIEND, Tomorrow X Together, and ENHYPEN along with global artists Halsey, Steve Aoki, and Lauv. Even though the members of SEVENTEEN are under Big Hit Labels, the band was not part of the lineup.
On Jan. 4, Pledis Entertainment announced that SEVENTEEN would put on their own online concert for fans. The virtual concert will be livestreamed on Jan. 23 at 1 a.m. PST, 4 a.m. EST, and 6 p.m. KST.
According to a press release, “SEVENTEEN will be performing more than 20 songs, presenting top notch performances for their global audience. Viewers will be able to enjoy the virtual concert in four multi view screens that consist of a main display and conceptual ones.”
Fans are excited for the concert
After SEVENTEEN announced the online concert, fans celebrated on social media.
“so excited to see what they’ve prepared! already know the performances are going to be chefs kiss,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
CARATs also speculated about the meaning of “IN-COMPLETE,” particularly in relation to SEVENTEEN’s 2020 EP Semicolon.
“‘in-complete’ feels like it’s in line with semicolon, since it’s like taking a break but it’s not done/over yet? a semicolon indicates incompletion because it doesn’t end a sentence? not sure lol but in-complete is a really cool title,” a fan speculated on Reddit.
“… I think the name for the concert was inspired by the fact that it’s an online concert and carats are missing – it would be a very SVT thing to symbolize the bond between them and carats (especially in regards to concerts),” wrote a Reddit user.
