Sex and the City still has a cult following today thanks to its witty writing and entertaining characters. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis each had their own different storylines and journeys, and their adventures remain beloved by fans of the series.

‘Sex and the City’ had two movies

When Sex and the City went off the air in 2004, many felt that they hadn’t seen the last of their fantastic four, and they were right. In 2008, they reunited for the Sex and the City movie, which revisits the beloved characters four years after the show wrapped up.

Much like the original series, the Sex and the City movie followed the highs and lows of the characters’ love lives.

Two years later, the ladies of SATC took off for Dubai in Sex and the City 2 for a much-needed girls’ trip. In 2013, the prequel series The Carrie Diaries premiered on The CW.

The ‘Sex and the City’ movie showed something the show never did

There’s one thing that Sex and the City never did that even some hardcore fans of the show might realize. Throughout its six seasons, not once was a holiday ever a part of any episode. In one season 6 episode, Charlotte gets her last Christmas tree before converting to Judaism, but it isn’t actually Christmastime.

The Sex and the City movie was a first for the franchise, as one sequence shows Carrie rushing to Miranda’s apartment so they wouldn’t be alone at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

One scene in the ‘Sex and the City’ movie required special planning

Michael Patrick King, who wrote, directed, and produced the Sex and the City series as well as both movies recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what it was like filming the first SATC movie, and specifically that sequence.

Because the movie was filmed in warm weather, the crew had to do some extra work behind the scenes to make it look like it was actually wintertime in New York. This was also new for the series, as the show perpetually took place in spring, summer, or fall.

“All the snow is fake; it’s all fake,” King admitted. “We asked all the neighbors on Perry Street to let us go in and decorate all their houses with Christmas, and they were like, ‘Okay!'”

King conceded, “It’s a lot to be Sex and the City on your street all the time, but they were really charming and lovely.”

The New Year’s Eve snowstorm scene brought another first

The snowy weather isn’t the only series first that this scene brings. Miranda points out to Carrie on the phone that there’s no way she’ll be able to get a cab on New Year’s Eve, so she resorts to taking the subway.

“It is the only time, in the entire series or either of the movies, that we saw Carrie come up out of the subway or go into the subway,” King said. “That was a major thing for me as a writer: Carrie’s on the subway — that’s how much she’s trying to get someplace for her friend.”
