‘Sex and the City’: A Fan Finds Proof That Stanford Blatch Was With Marcus Adant in ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’

A Reddit fan just noticed that Marcus Adant, Stanford Blatch's former boyfriend, was invited to Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big's wedding in 'Sex and the City: The Movie'. His invitation to the wedding proves he and Stanford were together until sometime in 2008. The end of their romance, oddly enough, wasn't mentioned.

The cast of Sex and the City are returning for an HBO Max reboot, but fans of the original show still have some questions they would like answered. Ever since Sex and the City: The Movie, fans have questioned what happened between Carrie Bradshaw’s best friend, Stanford Blatch, and his boyfriend, Marcus Adant. Somewhere along the way, the duo broke up, but viewers never found out when. That is, until now. A fan found proof that Stanford and Marcus were still together in 2008.

Stanford’s sexual exploits and missteps were occasionally featured in Sex and the City and Sex and the City: The Movie. He admitted to being perpetually single and rather lonely. Stanford was so lonely that he was willing to date men who had some interesting quirks. That all changed when he met Marcus, though. Marcus, a dancer, appeared for the first time in the season 5 episode, “Cover Girl.”

Stanford and Marcus briefly broke up when Stanford found out Marcus was temporarily a male escort, but they reconciled quickly. Marcus made his final appearance in Sex and the City in the eighteenth episode of the show’s last season. While they weren’t featured in the finale, fans assumed they were still together.

Marcus didn’t appear in Sex and the City: The Movie. Fans largely assumed that Stanford and Marcus broke up sometime between the series finale and the movie. After all, they theorize, the couple appeared to be on the rocks during the show’s final season. Now, a Reddit user has proof that the couple was together, at least briefly during Sex and the City: The Movie.

The user discovered a moment in Sex and the City: The Movie when the guestlist for Carrie and Mr. Big’s wedding is in full view. If you pause the scene, you can see that Carrie listed Marcus as a guest, directly below her ninth guest, Stanford. The next guest, Harriet Preston, would have been a relative of Mr. Big. Big’s real name is John James Preston. Other guests on the list include Carrie’s publishers, her Vogue editor, Enid Meade, and her best friends.

Carrie and Stanford were the best of friends. If Stanford and Marcus had broken up, it seems unlikely that Carrie would have invited him to the wedding that never was. Based on his invite, fans can assume that Marcus and Stanford were very much together when Carrie planned her wedding. Stanford still never mentioned their breakup.

Stanford is still married to Anthony Marantino in ‘And Just Like That…’

The demise of Stanford and Marcus’ relationship made way for Stanford and Anthony Marantino’s romance. Anthony, Charlotte’s best friend, and Stanford were enemies for most of Sex and the City. The duo didn’t care for each other in the early moments of the movie, either. When they ran into each other at a New Year’s Eve party, though, sparks flew. Sex and the City 2 opened with Stanford and Anthony’s wedding.

Willie Garson, who will reprise his role as Stanford, and Mario Cantone, who portrays Anthony, have been spotted on the set of And Just Like That… in recent weeks. Their presence on the set together indicates that they are still married.
