‘Sex and the City’ Fans Think Samantha Will Be Killed Off in Revival After Tik Tok Video
Since the announcement of the Sex and the City revival And Just Like That…, fans have wondered how the show will address Samantha Jones’ absence. The character has been written out following Kim Cattrall’s decision not to return as the fashionable, sex-positive PR agent. What’ll happen to her is anyone’s guess, but fans have already started to weigh in with their predictions. One theory says Samantha even might be killed off of the show.
It was previously believed that Samantha Jones would have a falling out with her friends
While details about the show are limited, HBO Max content executive Casey Bloys previously hinted that Samantha would no longer be friends with Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York.
“They’re not trying to say that these characters are reliving their 30s. It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s,” Bloys told TVLine of the revival.
“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” Bloys added. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life… They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”
But another theory has emerged
Though many believed Samantha would fall out with her friends, a new rumor has emerged claiming she’ll die in the series.
The theory was kickstarted by a Tik Tok user who posted footage online from what they believe is the set of the revival that shows several people dressed in black ceremonial attire.
“I was walking down the street in New York City and saw a huge crowd and realized they were filming for Sex And The City,” the person says in the clip. “But everyone was wearing all black. Is it for Samantha’s funeral?”
Nothing has been confirmed, but The Daily Mail did say the revival would allegedly feature a major character death.
Speaking anonymously, a source told the outlet, “This is all top secret at the moment, because production has just started. But in the first episode fans will be served up a jaw-dropping storyline where one of the major names on the show will die. Those in the know are calling it a ‘big death.’ But we have been implored not to say anything or divulge any other info, because HBO wants this to be one of their huge promotional points for the launch.”
While many people initially believed it would be Mr. Big, the report has taken on a new meaning in midst of the Tik Tok video. However, not everyone is biting. There are also some fans who figured the funeral was just a diversion after script and photo leaks.
What Kim Cattrall wants for her character
If the theory does happen to be true, the plot would be in line with what Cattrall seems to want for her character. As Harper’s Bazaar notes, she appeared to endorse a tweet from Perez Hilton in 2017 encouraging Sex and the City to “just kill @KimCattrall’s character.”
She also said she’d love to see another actor take on her role.
Both outcomes are interesting and could very well happen, but we’ll have to wait and see until And Just Like That… airs.
