Sex and the City’: It Looks Like Stanford and Anthony Will Live Happily Ever After in Reboot
The Sex and the City reboot, And Just Like That…, is moving full steam ahead. As the cast gets closer to the start of filming, the production team is revealing more details. While the writers have kept the show’s storyline close, they are slowly dropping information about supporting cast members. In doing so, they are also revealing key components of the reboot. Fans finally know that Stanford Blatch and Anthony Marantino will both be involved and, presumably, will be living happily ever after.
Mario Cantone and Willie Garson have both confirmed their involvement in And Just Like That…
Mario Cantone joined Sex and the City in season 3 as Charlotte York’s wedding planner, Anthony. When Charlotte’s marriage to Trey MacDougal imploded, he stayed on as her best friend. Willie Garson appeared in all six seasons of the famed series as Carrie Bradshaw’s bestie, Stanford. It has been confirmed that both will be returning to reprise their roles in the HBO Max reboot.
Variety confirmed Cantone’s involvement in the series. Garson quietly announced his return to the limited series back in January 2021.. His big reveal came the same month that HBO Max announced the much-anticipated reboot. Neither Cantone nor Garson has openly discussed the show’s storyline.
Stanford and Anthony got married in Sex and the City 2 after a contentious relationship during the show’s original run
The return of Cantone and Garson as Anthony and Stanford has fans assuming the pair got their happily ever after. If both are involved in the series, it seems safe to assume that they are still married. HBO Max, however, did not confirm the storyline. If they are still together, like it is believed, the on-screen couple beat all the odds.
Way back in season 3 of Sex and the City, Charlotte tried to match Stanford with Anthony. Anthony brutally rebuffed the eccentric Stanford. They were enemies from then on. Anthony even dug up an old magazine ad to ruin Stanford’s long-term relationship with Marcus Adant.
Their relationship was still chilly in Sex and the City: The Movie, but a New Year’s Eve party brought them together. Sex and the City 2, filmed two years after the first movie, opened with the pair getting married in a lavish wedding in the Hamptons.
Sex And the City fans weren’t exactly thrilled with Stanford and Anthony’s pairing
While fans are psyched to see Cantone and Garson reprising their roles in the reboot, their characters’ marriage wasn’t exactly a fan favorite. The pair’s Sex and the City 2 wedding felt forced and hardly moved the storyline along. Over the years, fans of the series have criticized the way the relationship came about and how writers failed to tie up important loose ends for both characters.
Perhaps And Just Like That… will further develop the couple’s story. Maybe it will help fans feel a bit better about the union. While their story surely won’t be the main focus of the series, it would be nice to see a bit more from the pair.
