‘Sex and the City’ Revival Adds Original Actor Julie Halston
A revival of HBO’s Sex and the City is officially happening, with production underway in New York. Titled And Just Like That…, the show will bring back Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes, as well as several people in their lives. That includes the fabulous socialite Bitsy von Muffling, played by actor Julie Halson.
‘And Just Like That…’ HBO revived ‘Sex and the City’
The Sex and the City revival was finally confirmed in January, following weeks of rumors. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the show will focus on “Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
“You know, who are they in this world now? Have they adapted? What part have they played? Where have they fallen short as women, as friends, and how are they finding their way?” Parker teased to Vanity Fair. “Did they move with momentum? Are they like some people who are confused, threatened, nervous [by what’s happening in the world]? I’m so curious and excited to see how the writers imagine these women today.”
The series will be without Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones), as she’s chosen to move on from SATC. But there’s a plan in place to address Samantha’s absence.
“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” HBO Max content officer Casey Bloys told TVLine when asked how the show intends to handle Samantha’s not being there.
“Friendships fade, and new friendships start,” he continued. “So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life… They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York. So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50.”

In addition to the girls, fans can also expect to see Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Aiden Shaw (John Corbett), Steve Brady (David Eisenberg), Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), and Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone).
Deadline adds that Muffling has also been added to the revival. As fans will recall, she was first introduced in the fifth season of Sex and the City when she married cabaret singer Bobby Fine. Muffling was shown pregnant in the next season, but she pretty much disappeared after that. Deadline reports that Halson’s role in the revival is a recurring one, but Muffling’s exact storyline is unclear.
Aside from them, the cast of And Just Like That… is comprised of new faces, including Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy), Nicole Ari Parker (Soul Food), Karen Pittman (The Blacklist), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), and many other actors.
When does ‘And Just Like That…’ come out?
No release date for And Just Like That… has been shared, as of writing. With production kicking off only weeks ago, it’s much too early to tell when it’ll be completed. But if we had to guess, taking into account the time it takes to shoot and edit a series, an early 2022 release date seems likely. We’ll see.
