‘Sex and the City’: Sarah Jessica Parker’s Feet Are Deformed Because of The Show
The classic HBO show Sex and the City has stood the test of time, and is even getting the reboot treatment thanks to HBO Max. The original series starring Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis was a cultural phenomenon, and it remains a highlight of its four stars’ careers.
‘Sex and the City’ was about fashion
Sex and the City focused on its four protagonists and their various love lives in New York City and painted a picture of what empowered female sexuality looked like at the turn of the 21st century. The show was also important for the way it shifted the world of fashion.
Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, in particular, was the noted fashionista of the group. She often wore Manolo Blahnik heels and made the Italian shoe designer a household name.
The looks on Sex and the City were thanks to veteran stylist and designer Patricia Field. Through her costume work on the show, SATC became a beacon of fashion in the early 2000s and set several trends that would later be copied.
Filming ‘Sex and the City’ was often a long process
While haute couture clothes may be nice to look at, they’re often not the most comfortable thing to wear. Christian Louboutin heels, for example, are notoriously uncomfortable to break in. Filming any show often involves long days, and stars have to remain in costume the whole time.
Parker opened up about her experience filming long days in uncomfortable shows to high fashion online retailer Net-a-Porter.
“For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels. I worked 18-hour days and never took them off,” Parker recalled. “I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained.”
The effect ‘Sex and the City’ had on Sarah Jessica Parker’s feet
Eventually, her years of living in high heels started to catch up with her. She twisted her ankle on the set of the 2011 film I Don’t Know How She Does It, where she wore less expensive shoes to be true to her working mom character.
Parker then revealed the effect that all those years of filming in high heels have done to her feet. “I went to a foot doctor and he said, ‘Your foot does
things it shouldn’t be able to do. That bone there…. You’ve created that bone. It doesn’t belong there,’” she recalled.
“The moral of the story is, the chickens are coming home to roost,” she continued. “It’s sad, because my feet took me all over the world, but eventually they were like, ‘You know what, we are really tired, can you just stop — and don’t put cheap shoes on us?’”
