How did Sarah Jessica Parker get her start on ‘Sex and the City’?

In the late ’90s, Parker was offered to play Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO series, Sex and the City. Yet, according to the book titled Sex and the City and Us, it took a ton of convincing to get Parker to agree to the show. In fact, she originally wanted to back out from the series after shooting the pilot episode.

According to the book, Parker had bad previous experiences working on television, where she felt as though it was all too “routine.” She preferred the excitement of working in theater and in film, where no day was ever the same. Yet, with HBO, things would be quite different. She would have much more creative freedom, and she was even offered to be a producer on the series. This eventually won her over, and thus, she became one of the most iconic television characters of all time.

Why the ‘Sex and the City’ star is not ‘Team Aidan’

According to Parker, she loved getting the opportunity to explore different love interests for Carrie. But when it comes to her personal opinion on whether she’s “Team Aidan” or “Team Big,” she seems to have a pretty clear answer. Because of her deep affinity for Mr. Big and Carrie’s relationship, she just can’t get on board with “Team Aidan.”

“There is a very quick and simple answer. You have to be Team Big,” she said, according to Today. “Only because you can’t tell a story that long and not in the most conventional way kind of root for that ending. And I love Chris Noth so much, and it felt wonderfully and skillfully written by Michael Patrick [King].”

But still, she loves Aidan as well.

“But I love John Corbett so much, and I loved Aidan. I loved his Aidan,” she explained. “The best of both worlds is, in fact, having your cake and eating it too. So I feel like I got both teams. Ultimately, Carrie should have ended up with Big, but it was a delight to mess around before she arrived at that.”

According to Corbett, he always knew that Carrie and Big would end up together in the end, because Big represents the “New York” that Carrie has been in love with all along.

And when Corbett was asked whether he was “Team Aidan” or “Team Big,” he gave a surprising answer:

“Selfishly, I like my characters to win,” he said of Aidan getting Carrie in the end. “But no,” he continued. “There’s no other way for that formula to go down except for with Mr. Big… It wouldn’t have been a good show if she ended up with (Aidan.)”
