Sex and the City was one of HBO’s most popular series. The premise of the show focused on writer Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends as they experience the ups and downs of dating in New York City. One of the main storylines throughout the show’s six seasons was Carrie’s on-again, off-again relationship with Mr. Big (Chris Noth). However, before Carrie, another character put the moves on the handsome businessman.
Mr. Big rejected Samantha Jones
In the pilot episode of the series, Carrie and her pal Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) attend a swank party, where they see Mr. Big. Intrigued by the handsome and rich tycoon, Samantha decides to seduce him. Samantha joins Big in indulging in a cigar and brandy. Despite her flirtatious attempts, Big turns down her advances.
Although Samantha didn’t end up with Big, she did go home with another man. Meanwhile, Big offers Carrie a ride home in his limo, during which they discuss the topic of love. When asked if he’s ever been in love, Big gives the iconic response, “ab-so-f—ing-lutely.”
Mr. Big and Carrie Bradshaw’s on-again, off-again relationship
Big and Carrie’s relationship experienced plenty of turmoil throughout the years. Their issues stemmed from Big’s reluctance to commit and not putting Carrie as his number one priority in life. Carrie faced heartache at the hands of Big. In the season two finale, Carrie is stunned to learn Big is engaged to a younger woman named Natasha (Bridget Moynahan).
Despite moving on with other people, Big and Carrie remain a constant fixture in each other’s lives. At one point, the two indulge in a secret affair, which eventually leads to Big’s divorce from Natasha along with Carrie’s break up with Aidan.
The series finale saw a happy ending for Big and Carrie. With the encouragement of the rest of the gals, Big went to Paris to win back Carrie. After breaking up with her beau Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov), an emotional Carrie runs into Big. Newly reunited, the couple is taking a midnight stroll when Big tells Carrie “you’re the one.”
‘Sex and the City’ reboot implies Mr. Big and Carrie Bradshaw’s marital issues
In the Sex and the City movie, fans saw Big and Carrie finally wed. The film’s sequel had the couple hit a rough patch with Carrie feeling they were stuck in a rut, and then sharing a kiss with her ex-fiance Aidan. Yet, in the end, Carrie and Big worked things out.
However, the marital issues between Big and Carrie may not be over. According to Page Six, a leaked script for the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That… indicates the couple is headed for a divorce. News about the couple’s possible split has fans in an uproar with many wondering if it’s real or a ploy to garner attention for the show.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth were recently spotted filming together on set. Based on the photos, it appears their characters aren’t pleased to see each other. As for what becomes of Big and Carrie’s marriage, fans will have to wait until the series premiere to discover what happens.
