‘Shameless’: Is Emmy Rossum Married?
Shameless premiered on Showtime on Jan. 9, 2011. In its pilot, viewers met Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) and her family. Besides playing the show’s lead character, Rossum also directed several episodes before exiting the series in season 9.
Fiona had multiple failed relationships on the family dramedy, which included a quickie marriage to a man she met at her waitressing job. Although she played a woman unlucky in love, is the actor married in real life?
Emmy Rossum announced she was leaving ‘Shameless’ in 2018
Before booking Shameless, Rossum worked as a television and film actor. In 1997, she made her small-screen debut as Abigail Williams in As The World Turns. The Brooklyn native also performed in theater and was classically trained in opera by the time she was an adult, per The Hollywood Reporter. At age 13, Rossum appeared in her first movie, Songcatcher.
The young actor continued to work into the ‘00s. In 2004, she booked the lead role in Phantom of the Opera. Because of her past training, Rossum used her real voice to sing in the musical. The role earned the actor a Golden Globes win for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
In 2011, Rossum returned to TV to star in Shameless. During her nine-season run on the series, fans watched as Fiona tirelessly took care of her five younger siblings and their father Frank, played by William H. Macy. While she frequently said her castmates had a close relationship, Variety reported that Rossum asked for a higher salary in 2016. The following year, Showtime paid the actor $350,000 per episode.
After almost a decade, Rossum released a statement on her Facebook page to announce her exit from Shameless. In her post, she shared that “the opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift.”

Like her Shameless character, Rossum has been married a few times. The Mystic River star’s first marriage was to Justin Siegel in 2008. According to Huffington Post, the couple kept their relationship away from the public eye after their discreet wedding.
After less than one year of marriage, Siegel filed for divorce in 2009. Following their split, Rossum briefly dated Counting Crows member Adam Duritz. Once that relationship ended, the actor began seeing her Shameless co-star, Tyler Jacob Moore. The couple was together for two years before going their separate ways in 2013.
Shortly after her split from Moore, Rossum began dating Sam Esmail. The producer is best known for creating, writing, and directing the series Mr. Robot. After two years of dating, he proposed to Rossum by writing their love stories in a mockup of The New York Times, per Vogue. The pair got married in 2017 at a New York temple. Shameless co-stars Macy and Shanola Hampton were in attendance for Rossum’s big day.
