‘Shameless’: Who Is the Worst Guy Fiona Gallagher Has Dated?
Throughout nine seasons of Shameless, oldest sibling Fiona Gallagher has dated her share of less-than-ideal men. Out of the eight guys she has had a relationship with throughout the series, Reddit fans voted ex-husband Gus Pfender, ex-fiance Sean Pierce, and ex-boyfriend Ford Kellogg, with Jimmy (Steve) Lishman as an honorable mention as the worst guys Fiona has ever dated.
Fiona Gallagher and Gus Pfender’s short-lived marriage
In Shameless Season 5, Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum) met musician Gus Pfender (Steve Kazee) at a bar, and the two immediately hit it off. After only a week of dating, the couple quickly married.
However, she cheated on him with ex-boyfriend Jimmy/Steve (Justin Chatwin) and her boss, Sean (Dermot Mulroney). The oldest Gallagher eventually confessed her affairs to her husband, and he pretended to her back, only to humiliate her by performing an insulting song titled, “F**k You, Fiona” on stage.
He returned at the end of Season 6, wanting a divorce as well as his grandmother’s ring back. However, the eldest Gallagher pawned it in an attempt to buy the family house.
Unable to retrieve the ring, Sean bought it and proposed to Fiona, in front of her soon-to-be ex-husband, with it. Even though Gus’ kind and calm nature seemed like a nice break from the other mean guys Fiona has dated, the publicly embarrassing song he sang for her turned fans against him. They also thought he was “classless” and didn’t care for their rushed marriage.
Sean Pierce left Fiona Gallagher at the altar
While still married to Gus, the oldest Gallagher began flirting with recovering heroin addict and then-manager of Patsy’s Pies, Sean Pierce (Dermot Mulroney). Also married, he admitted he liked Fiona but couldn’t be with her. Additionally, he revealed he murdered a man while high on heroin.
In the following season, the two began hanging out more and Sean helped her younger brother, Carl (Ethan Cutkosky), get out of the drug business. The couple also planned on marrying until Frank (William H. Macy) revealed her fiancé relapsed. Sean then decided to sign over ownership of the restaurant to Fiona and leave town.
He returned in Season 8 to make amends with Fiona for leaving her at the altar and offered to repay her for the wedding. The oldest Gallagher declined and revealed she still had feelings for him.
However, he announced he remarried his ex-wife and only wanted to clean the slate before starting a new life with Lina. Several fans strongly “disliked” Sean for “planning on marrying Fiona while actively using heroin.”
Additionally, he left her alone at the altar and then “ghosted” her until he wanted to make amends to start a life with someone else. Viewers also didn’t enjoy watching the relationship as they felt the two “lacked chemistry.”
Fiona Gallagher found out Ford Kellogg had a family
In Season 8, Fiona met Irish carpenter Ford Kellogg (Richard Flood) when he worked on her building. He initially didn’t have any romantic interest in the oldest Gallagher as he deemed her “complicated.”
After finding out that Ford fathered several children for lesbian mothers, she confronted the carpenter over his “complicated” comment. He proved he knew more about her background than she realized, and then the two entered a casual sexual relationship.
As their bond strengthened, Ford began giving Fiona business advice, and they nearly took their situationship to the next level. However, the restaurant owner found out that Ford had a wife and a child.
Even though the carpenter insisted he and his wife were separated and only lived together for the child, Fiona drove away hysterically crying and crashed into a parked car.
Debbie (Emma Kenney) helped her sister get revenge and had her friends tie the carpenter to a billboard with his pants down. While Ford was brilliant, many fans thought he “sucked” and found him “boring.” They also didn’t appreciate him lying about Patty being his mother.
Additionally, many viewers felt like he hurt Fiona the most as they think he’s a “piece of s**t” and believe there’s “something cold about him.” Out of the fans who voted, the majority cast theirs toward Ford as they think he’s the worst guy Fiona has dated.
