Marvel’s 2021 blockbuster came with its Shang-Chiinspired album, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album. This collection featured some of the biggest names in music and “two of the most exciting artists coming from Korean R&B,” according to 88rising’s founder.

Here’s what we know about the musicians featured on this album.

88rising curated ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album’

Marvel’s 2021 release, Shang-Chi, included an instrumentary soundtrack, in addition to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album. 88rising founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro is one of the masterminds behind this production, curating the artists who appeared in this Shang-Chi-inspired album.

“All of this film stuff and glitzy projects is great,” Miyashiro added. “But at the heart of it, we want to put out good music with good artists.”

This wouldn’t be the first album inspired by the story of a Disney film. In conjunction with Black Panther, Kendrick Lamar spearheaded Black Panther The Album: Music From and Inspired By. Beyoncé starred in Disney’s remake of The Lion King, creating The Lion King: The Gift.

“It’s a very exciting time in filmmaking,” Miyashiro said during an interview with The Face. “You have Minari and all these great filmmakers. You can make a film for $2 million that makes history and a lot of cultural impact… If it’s done right, the momentum keeps going. More films get made, and if eight films are bad and two are phenomenal and inspire the next generation of people, that’s amazing.”

88rising founder names DPR Ian and DPR Live as two of Korean R&B’s ‘most exciting artists’

This album featured chart-topping musicians like DJ Snake and 21 Savage. During one interview with the New York Times, Miyashiro named DPR Ian and DPR Live as  “two of the most exciting artists coming from Korean R&B.”

These performers were featured on “Diamonds + And Pearls” along with the artist peace. Since its release, the track has earned over 2 million Spotify plays.

Outside of their work with Shang-Chi, these artists release original music. For DPR Ian, that includes “No Blueberries” and its corresponding music video. For DPR Live, that includes “Summer Tights.”
