‘Shark Tank’: Barbara Corcoran Says to Ask These 3 Things Before Getting Into a Relationship (You’re Welcome)
You might not think of Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran as a relationship guru, but here we are. If you’re on the hunt for a lifelong commitment (or something more short-term), the real-estate mogul has a bit of advice before you take the plunge into a relationship. Read on to discover what three core questions everyone should ask a potential mate first.
Is Barbara Corcoran married?
Barbara Corcoran didn’t always have the best luck in love. Her first prominent relationship with Ramone Simone ended when Simone ended things and married Corcoran’s assistant. Ouch.
That tumultuous relationship gave the entrepreneur the motivation to succeed, out of spite. Years later, she met and fell in love with Navy Captain and former agent for the FBI, Bill Higgins.
The two eventually moved in together, along with Higgins’ four children from a previous marriage. They became engaged two years later. Corcoran may have had initial hesitation about the idea of a “lifelong commitment” after all she’d endured, but the couple is still together today, with two kids of their own, Tom and Katie.
Corcoran overcame self-doubt and now shares her wisdom on her podcast
Corcoran shares some of her lifelong struggles on Shark Tank, and across her social media channels. She admitted to having a learning disability, dyslexia, as a child. Her goal is to show others insecurities can be overcome.
“Growing up, I had a hard time learning to read and write, so I was labeled ‘the dumb kid.’ I let that get me down and diminish my confidence, so much so that when my boyfriend dumped me and said, ‘You’ll never succeed without me,’ I almost believed him. Almost,” she previously told CNBC.
“Today, I use insecurity as a motivator to learn and try harder. I am my biggest cheerleader. The moment that insecurity starts to creep in, I remind myself: ‘Barbara, you’re amazing.’”

What does Corcoran suggest asking a potential partner?
Now, Shark Tank isn’t Corcoran’s only claim to fame. On the podcast, Corcoran covers a wide range of lifestyle and relationship topics, most of which, are actual caller questions she tackles live, on-air.
During a recent segment on The Rachel Ray Show, Corcoran revealed what questions everyone should ask a potential mate to increase the chances of longevity.
If you’re looking for a serious relationship, Corcoran said to ask these three things: “Do you want to get married? Do you want to have kids? And can you pay for the wedding?”
The “shark” advised being upfront adding however that, “Romance has nothing to do with a job interview.”
She said if you’re a little too strict in finding the right “one, “assess who you’re dating in the first place,” and “don’t be afraid to get a second opinion.” She alluded to bringing along a friend who’ll get a better sense of whether someone is right or wrong for you.
That said, there’s a reason Corcoran is as successful as she is. Clearly she knows how to make things happen — including love. If it doesn’t work in the end, maybe she’ll at least take a 10 percent equity stake in your company in exchange for a different approach. Hey, it’s worth a shot.
