Sharon Osbourne and Jada Pinkett Smith Faced The Same ‘Heartbreaking’ Moment With Their Kids
Upon first glance, Jada Pinkett Smith and Sharon Osbourne may not appear to have much in common. Besides being successful TV personalities and enjoying lengthy marriages with equally famous men, they don’t seem similar. Still, Pinkett Smith and Osbourne face nearly identical moments with their children, and both were left heartbroken.
Jada Pinkett Smith was devastated when Jaden Smith asked to move out at 15
In 2018, Pinkett Smith opened up on her show, Red Table Talk, about one of the most heartbreaking moments of her life. On the Facebook Watch show, Pinkett Smith said that Jaden Smith’s decision to move out of the house and attempt to emancipate himself at 15 years old was devastating. She noted that his decision left her heartbroken, but she understood where he was coming from.
Pinkett Smith and her husband, Will Smith, have a pretty lenient parenting style. In fact, the pair have largely given their children control over their own lives. In 2013, Smith told E! he and Pinkett Smith don’t really believe in punishing their children. He said, “The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been — it has a little too much of a negative quality.” Still, letting go was difficult for Jada, and she was left heartbroken by Jaden’s decision to leave the house so young.
Sharon Osbourne faced the same “heartbreaking” moment
Ozzy Osbourne was a rock legend when he agreed to star in a reality TV show about his family life. The rest of his clan, however, were relatively unknown. Since the MTV production, The Osbournes, Sharon, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne have enjoyed individual success in the entertainment industry. There is one member of the family that fans may not know about. Sharon and Ozzy’s eldest daughter, Aimee Osbourne, wanted no part of reality TV. In fact, she opted to move out at 16 to avoid the cameras.
During a 2018 episode of The Talk, Osbourne recalled how her daughter’s decision left her heartbroken, even though she knew her eldest child was capable of making her own decisions. The younger Osbourne is seemingly no worse for the decision. Healthy, happy, and with a career of her own, things seemed to work out, but her mother is apparently still scarred by the experience. Osbourne recently spoke about the decision again, noting that she still regrets allowing Aimee to leave so young.
Pinkett Smith and Osbourne both understood where their kids were coming from
Pinkett Smith and Osbourne didn’t just face the same heartbreaking moment with their children, but they both seemed to have the same reaction. Both Osbourne and Pinkett Smith have stated that they understood why their kids came to the decisions they did. Still, the younger Smith and the younger Osbourne decided to leave the house young for entirely different reasons.
Aimee left her family’s home because she couldn’t deal with the thought of growing up in front of a reality TV camera. Her mother made it clear that she completely understood where her daughter was coming from. Reality TV just didn’t fit Aimee’s personality. On the other hand, Jaden left his family’s California home so he could expand and live his own life. Reality TV was not a contributing factor.
