Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes announced their breakup in November 2021. The singers had been dating for two years and collaborated on multiple hit songs. On Mar. 18, Mendes shared an Instagram video opening up to fans about his feelings after the split.
“You don’t realize … when you’re breaking up with someone and you like think it’s the right thing, you don’t realize all the s*** that comes after it,” the musician said while seated at a piano. “Which is like, who do I call when I’m like in a panic attack, who do I call when I’m like f***ing on the edge.”
He went on to say that he hates being on his own after the breakup. “And I think that’s the reality that kind of hit me, I was like, oh, I’m on my own now,” Mendes described. “Now I feel like, finally I’m actually on my own, and I hate that. That’s my reality, you know?”

Camila Cabello also recently opened up about her breakup with Shawn Mendes on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily. She revealed that she did a lot of therapy during their two-year romance.
“My priorities have fluctuated and my focus has changed throughout my life,” Cabello said (via Elle). “… And same thing with those years that we were together. My focus was just, how can I live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship? I was doing therapy a lot.”
She chalked the split up to changing priorities rather than problems within the relationship. “My focus really has shifted,” Cabello explained. “And even now while I’m in promo mode, honestly, if I’m not having fun, what’s the f***ing point? I think as I get older, yeah, the priorities shift. And I feel like that was that way for both of us.”
Cabello added, “Because we both started so young too, we’re really learning how to be healthy adults.”

Shawn Mendes’ fans quickly reacted to his remarks about being on his own after breaking up with Camila Cabello. Many of them offered the singer words of comfort in the comments section of his Instagram post.

Some fans took Mendes’ words to mean that he regrets splitting with Cabello. Leaving comments like, “You shouldn’t have let her go dude😢”
