Should Captain Marvel Have Appeared at the End of ‘Age of Ultron’?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a massive and successful franchise that has spanned over 10 years and over 20 movies.
One of the reasons for its success is that there is a lot of variety in the movies, and that’s largely due to how many different characters there are in the franchise. However, with so many characters in the MCU, there are also the problems that come with having to juggle around that many characters who all have to be interesting in their own way.
That’s why some MCU fans think it was a bad call to introduce Captain Marvel so late in the franchise. Here’s a look at why some fans think Captain Marvel should’ve appeared at the end of Age of Ultron.
Why Captain Marvel should’ve been introduced earlier
In the comics, Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful and consequential characters, and simply said, she is a very important part of the team. She is so powerful that she could’ve probably helped the Avengers a lot in the first and second Avengers movies had she been there. While Marvel is currently aiming at making her one of the leaders of the new Avengers, fans think that Marvel should’ve either introduced or teased about her earlier.
Many Marvel fans on Reddit feel that way, and one fan thinks that she should’ve appeared at the end of Age of Ultron. They said, “Yeah, it still would’ve been clunky and less than ideal but at least she wouldn’t have shown up at the *** end of a ten year saga. (I wonder if Brie Larson would still have been cast in the role in that case. Food for thought).”
This would’ve given her more time to develop and grow as a character before Endgame.
Why delaying Captain Marvel’s introduction might’ve been a good idea
However, other fans made some good points about why Marvel ultimately made the right decision. Off the bat, many fans tend to agree that Age of Ultron isn’t the best Avengers movie, and one fan even said on Reddit, “AoU was clunky enough.”
Due to that, by introducing Captain Marvel in Age of Ultron, it would’ve probably made the movie even worse than it already was.
Plus, many fans agreed that if Captain Marvel was introduced in Age of Ultron, then Brie Larson probably wouldn’t have been cast for the role.
Larson has been acting for a long time, but her biggest role before the MCU was probably in the 2015 movie, Room, which she won an Oscar for. Room premiered a few months after Age of Ultron did, so she wouldn’t have been as famous at the time.
How ‘Captain Marvel 2’ will make up for lost time
Due to her late introduction to the MCU, Captain Marvel isn’t as well-developed of a character as most of the other main superheroes are. But, Marvel is making up for lost time, and unless things go wrong, she should be getting her sequel movie in 2022. Not much is known about this sequel so far, but it will be directed by Nia DaCosta.
Most Marvel fans expect this sequel to do two things. First, since it’s Captain Marvel’s solo movie, it should focus on her story. Marvel has a pretty blank slate in this regard, so her story can go in many directions.
The second thing this movie has to do, however, is help set up the next team of Avengers. With many of the original Avengers either dying or retiring, the Avengers needs new teammates, and Captain Marvel is a great mentor figure for them.
It’s possible that Kamala Khan, who’s a young Avenger who loves Captain Marvel, will show up in this movie, but that’s not a guarantee.
