Side Characters in ‘The Boys’ That Look a Lot Like DC Superheroes
The Boys has been a certified hit fit for Amazon since its debut in 2019. The show takes place in an alternate universe where superheroes work for their corporate overlords — mostly putting profits over people — under the moniker of “Supes.” However, this isn’t a hero series you should watch with your children. It shows us a “what if” scenario where our favorite Marvel characters were actually a bit of an a**hole on the inside, and it tackles a lot of mature themes. But fans can’t help but notice the Supes share a striking resemblance to the heroes we’re already familiar with. While the Supes who make up The Seven draw comparisons to the Avengers heroes, like Homelander as the Cap, you might not recognize some of the smaller roles. Let’s take a closer look at a few of ‘The Boys’ side characters here to which DC superheroes they’re parodying.
Blindspot and Daredevil
A blind fighter who’s trained his other senses to supernatural levels alongside masterful acrobatic and combat skills? Give him a cane and he’s a shoo-in for Matt Murdock, better known as the Daredevil. However, as CBR points out, they do have a slight difference in how they honed their skills. Blindspot’s hearing is the sense that’s been enhanced, while Daredevil’s skill is more like a bat — where the sound makes a vibration, and that allows him to sort of “see” his surroundings.
Ezekiel and Mr. Fantastic
Ezekiel is the antithesis to Mr. Fantastic, with both sharing the ability to stretch their entire body and limbs. However, while Reed Richards is a scientist who only wants the best for the world, Ezekiel wants to change the world by forcing his religion and beliefs onto society. And according to GameSpot, Ezekiel is a religious zealot and “is a self-hating homophobe.”
Eagle the Archer and Hawkeye
Although we don’t get to see much of Eagle on the small screen, he’s a staple in the comics. He’s a parody of our arrow-slinging Avenger, Hawkeye. However, there’s a major difference; Hawkeye fights hard for the world — to protect it. Eagle’s normally only out for a buck. Also, Men’s Health and other fans think he might be a part of some Fresca conspiracy in the show. Check it out.
Doppelganger and Mystique
Doppelganger shares the same powers and plays the same role as Mystique from the X-Men. Their abilities allow them to take on the appearance of anybody, down to the voice and all. Both characters are used as spies or for other nefarious purposes. However, there could be some confusion for people because there is a Doppelganger in the Marvel comics. But he’s only a copy of Spider-Man.
Kimiko and the Wolverine
Kimiko, sometimes called The Female, is a copy of another fan favorite from X-Men, The Wolverine. She shares all the same abilities as Wolverine. She has super-strength, ultra fast healing, and the same quick reflexes. However, she’s missing two of his major (and arguably the most popular) attributes. Those are his adamantium bones and the claws. But if you ask me, I’d say they forgot one of the greatest additions to Wolverine’s character: calling everybody “Bub.”
What’s next for ‘The Boys’?
The series is returning for its third season on Amazon Prime Video, but the exact date is still up in the air. Digital Spy reported that Seth Rogan, the show’s executive producer, said this when asked about it at the 2019 Comic-Con: “Because this show has fans and it is watched by people like you, they have decided to renew it. So, if you like The Boys, you’ve got more of it. Thank God.”
Whenever the show returns, we have spies in Vaught, cameras in the Haitian King’s hideout, and a lot more loose ends to tie up.
