Simone Biles’ Body Language Shows She Wants to ‘Guard’ Her Husband From ‘Criticism or Harm,’ Expert Says
All eyes are on Simone Biles in Paris for the 2024 Olympics. The all-star American gymnast is the most decorated in history. However, when she met her now-husband, Jonathan Owens, on a dating app in 2020, he didn’t know who she was. Later, Biles fans came after Owens for some of his statements about his wife. Here’s what a body language expert said about Biles acting like she wants to “guard” Owens from “criticism or harm.”
A body language expert says Simone Biles wants to ‘guard’ her husband, Jonathan Owens, from ‘criticism’
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens have a loving relationship. In 2020, the gymnast met the Chicago Bears safety on the celebrity dating app Raya, and he didn’t know who she was at the time. The couple got married in 2023.
Owens faced criticism for a few of his comments regarding his relationship. During an interview with The Pivot podcast, Owens was asked if he considered himself “the catch” in the romance. “I always say the men are the catch,” he said.
While some fans are still wary of Owens, body language expert Judi James told The Sun that Owens seems “in awe” of Biles.
“Jonathan’s historical comments seem to have haunted him,” she said. “If anything, his one comment about being a catch might have come from a place of insecurity. Now, he looks completely submissive and shows an immersive interest in his wife and the relationship.”
James added that Owens “could not do more” in his body language to prove that he adores his wife. “This is where he does not even share her spotlight — he bends naturally into Simone and leans in most of the time,” she continued. Additional photos of Biles and Owens show how they “take the spotlight in turns.”
As for Biles, James says she “seems keen to guard him from criticism or harm” and offers “fan-girl adoration” while he plays football. “We can see her arching her back in a gesture of pride or stretching up and baring her neck to perform a kiss of reward,” the body language expert added.
Simone Biles called out fans who were ‘disrespectful’ to her husband
Simone Biles’ fans want nothing but the best for her, and many were not impressed by what her husband, Jonathan Owens, said about her in the past. After Owens admitted that he didn’t know who Biles was before dating her, Biles took to her Instagram Stories to warn fans to stop the hate.
“I’m going to quickly address this, the joke was never a joke! Y’all are blatantly being disrespectful to my relationship and my husband,” Biles posted, according to ABC. “If you keep commenting or tweeting at me, I’m just going to block you. Simple as that. And no, I don’t need to touch grass or whatever tf y’all suggest ….”
Biles also addressed the controversy on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “That really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that,” the gymnast admitted. “Because for me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never.”
Jonathan Owens asked for time away from the Chicago Bears to support his wife in the Paris Olympics
Jonathan Owens can’t wait to support Simone Biles at the Paris Olympics in 2024. He asked for time off from training camp to head to Europe.
“Obviously, the Olympics were coming up, and you know who my wife is,” Owens said after the Bears’ training camp practice, according to Yahoo. “It was all respectful. We went to them and asked, ‘We’d really appreciate if he could go to support his wife.’”
Owens called Biles “amazing” and couldn’t believe “how lucky” he was to call her his wife. “I just think about, how did I get so lucky that this is my wife, and I get to see her — someone who’s just literally at the pinnacle at her sport,” he said. “And I get to call her my wife. It’s amazing.”
