Born David Adkins, Sinbad, is the son of a Baptist reverend. At the beginning of his life, he had no real interest in comedy, Instead, he played basketball and attended college at the University of Denver.
Following college, he enrolled in the Air Force. However, when he failed to make the Air Force basketball team, he turned his attentions elsewhere. He began performing stand-up comedy downtown in Wichita, Kansas.
After getting discharged from the Air Force, Sinbad took on his infamous stage name and focused on making a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He landed a role on The Redd Foxx Show and, eventually, A Different World.
Sinbad is currently recovering from a stroke
Most recently, Sinbad appeared on the sitcom Rel. However, in the past year, the 64year-old has been out of the public eye. In mid-November, his family revealed that The Sinbad Show alum was recovering from a stroke.
