Kody Brown spent years pushing his first three wives away in favor of his fourth and now only wife. The Sister Wives star was utterly flummoxed when all three left him in short order.

Season 19 of the series has covered Meri Brown’s decision to cut ties with her former plural family, and it doesn’t seem like Kody is taking it as expected. In a recent scene, the former polygamist claimed he “likes” Meri now, and we can’t help but wonder if he was trying to pull her back into their troubled and dysfunctional dynamic. He would have reasons to do so.

Was Kody Brown trying to get Meri to stay?

Sister Wives Season 19 has had some odd moments, but none have been more confusing than a conversation between Meri Brown and Kody Brown. While the former flames sat and discussed Meri Brown’s decision not to attend a family Christmas event, Kody changed directions quickly. The former polygamist told his ex-wife that he “liked” her for the first time in six years and wanted to figure out what they were to each other at that point.

Meri wasn’t particularly interested in entertaining the idea of reconnecting on any level. The small business owner was quick to tell Kody that they were exes. She went on to assure him that he did not need to worry about her or what she was up to any longer. Kody’s somewhat surprised look has left fans talking, but no one is entirely certain of the Sister Wives villain’s intentions. Why would Kody want to establish a relationship with the woman he regularly claimed to despise?

Why would Kody Brown want to establish a relationship with Meri Brown now?

Viewers are split about whether Kody wanted to establish a connection with Meri Brown after their split. Still, his sudden interest in telling her he “likes” her now feels manipulative. If you think about it, Kody has several reasons for attempting to reconcile with Meri.

Kody’s sudden interest in talking to Meri and figuring out how to establish a relationship moving forward would certainly “please” his fourth wife. Robyn has spent the last few years insisting that she wanted a plural family. Roping Meri back into his life, even as a side character, would make Kody look better in Robyn’s eyes.

Kody might also want to keep her around for her income. The Brown family members are reportedly paid as individuals for their work on the series. While it’s unclear how much they make for Sister Wives, Meri has several side businesses that bring in substantial income. Meri likely has the highest income out of the group when you factor in what she makes from her inn, company, and MLM work. Kody may have tried to rope Meri back in to keep her income available should he and Robyn need it.

Finally, Kody might finally be feeling a little lonely. Sure, the former polygamist has a wife and five children to keep him busy. Still, Kody appears to be someone who likes to feel pined after. Meri leaving after she spent years trying to get back in his good graces, coupled with Janelle Brown’s departure, might have left him feeling lonely and nostalgic, even if for a moment.
