‘Sister Wives’: Fans React to the Drama-Filled Trailer for the New Season
The next season of TLC’s Sister Wives premieres Sun., Feb. 14, at 10 p.m. EST – but the network’s new supertease trailer reveals just about everything but Valentine’s Day romance. Kody Brown, a polygamist husband and dad to nearly 20 kids, appears to be struggling in his marriages to his four wives (Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn Brown). Here’s what Sister Wives fans have to say about the upcoming season.
The ‘Sister Wives’ cast struggles with a major family divide in the supertease
The trailer for the upcoming season of Sister Wives shows the Brown family at odds with one another and largely estranged.
The Browns already felt separated and distant due to their new living situation, having moved from Las Vegas to Flagstaff, Arizona. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fear of exposure is creating even more unwanted space between Kody, his four wives, and their many children.
For his part, Kody isn’t having it anymore. He lets his wives know that he’s done hearing about how divided the family is.
“I don’t want to spend the rest of my life listening to women tell me how unhappy they are,” the Sister Wives star declares.
Meanwhile, his relationships with both Meri and Christine are suffering. Meri and Kody don’t seem to have a romantic relationship at all anymore, while Christine appears to be contemplating divorce.
“Romance and sex are saved for people who are in love,” Kody laments. “If Meri and I really wanted to be together, we would.”
“I can’t make him love me,” Kody’s first wife sobs, seeming despondent and defeated.
Kody’s third wife, Christine, isn’t faring much better in her polygamist marriage.
“Meri, I can’t do marriage with Kody anymore. I don’t want to do it anymore,” she tells her sister wife, who begs her to reconsider.
“You don’t get to give up like that,” Meri exclaims to Christine as they embrace.
Many fans aren’t happy with Kody’s behavior in the trailer
As soon as the trailer dropped, Sister Wives fans were quick to share their thoughts about the upcoming season on Instagram. Many viewers noticed that Kody didn’t seem to be proactively trying to repair any of his four marriages. Several fans complained that he appeared to have dropped the ball when it came to leading the Brown family.
“This new season seems really sad and depressing…doesn’t seem like you all are sister wives anymore,” one critic wrote, “nor does it seem like Kody truly wants to lead the family anymore.”
Others pointed out that Kody chose a polygamist lifestyle for himself, arguing that he should have been more prepared for the potential challenges.
“Well, what did he expect?” an Instagram user commented. “He married 4 women with 4 personalities and he’s only 1 man. It’s too much.”
“Dude, you’re the one who wanted all those women,” another agreed. “Be careful what you wish for.”
Yet another Sister Wives viewer thought the stress must be compounded by the fact that Kody was wrestling with difficulties in not one, but at least two of his four marriages.
“Must be hell to be in a bad marriage to a dude who’s in 3 other bad marriages,” one commenter argued.
Others think Meri should leave the Brown family
Naturally, many Sister Wives fans also remarked on the ongoing problems between Kody and Meri, which have escalated for many seasons now. Some viewers argued that Kody’s first wife should consider leaving the family.
“Meri hasn’t been happy for a very long time,” one viewer commented. “I know she can be demanding and difficult at times but I do feel bad for her. I hope she finds happiness somehow.”
“Respectfully, my opinion, Meri should have left already,” another argued. “This does not seem like a healthy and good situation for her.”
Still another fan insisted that there was no hope of Meri’s relationship with Kody improving.
“Omg Meri it’s time to go for crying out loud,” they wrote. “He literally doesn’t want you anymore and it’s ridiculous at this point.”
However the new season of Sister Wives plays out, it’s clear that fans will have plenty to talk about. While many viewers were disappointed by the obvious conflicts within the Brown family, many thought the upcoming episodes looked juicier than past seasons’ storylines.
