‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Calls Plural Marriage His ‘Toughest Challenge’
Kody Brown is fed up. The Sister Wives star’s bad mood was on full display in the Feb. 28 episode of his family’s TLC reality series. Kody and his four wives were at odds with each other over what to do with the family’s Coyote Pass property. Also at issue was his fractured relationship with first wife Meri Brown. It all made for a “grumpy” Kody, as he admitted while live-tweeting the episode.
Kody Brown and his sister wives clash over Coyote Pass
This episode of Sister Wives actually opened with some two pieces of good news for the Brown family. First, Meri and Kody’s daughter Mariah Brown and her fiancée Audrey are moving back to Utah, much to the delight of the entire family. Second, Christine Brown has finally received an offer on her Las Vegas house. It’s the last of the family’s four properties in Nevada to sell.
Unloading the Vegas home means the Browns can put that chapter in their lives behind them. But it also means it will be harder than ever to put off dealing with their Coyote Pass property in Arizona. The Browns hope to build homes on the land for each wife, but they don’t appear to be anywhere close to starting construction.
The wives are ready to begin work on the project, but Kody admits he’s stalling, in part for financial reasons. Plus, there’s still disagreement about where each wife’s house will be located. Christine suspects Kody actually wants everyone to live separately, while Kody wonders if he should just sell the property.
Are Kody Brown and Meri Brown still together?
The fault lines in Kody and Meri’s marriage were also on full display in the most recent Sister Wives episode. Though Robyn tries to play peacemaker between the two, Meri and Kody seem unable to see eye-to-eye on anything. She’s still one of his sister wives, but the relationship appears to be hanging by a thread.
In an interview segment, Meri declares she’s left the ball in Kody’s court. But Kody sounds like he’s done with the marriage.
“If Meri and I really wanted to be together, we would,” he says. He also complains that Meri burdens him with her emotions, and he can’t take it anymore. “I’m not carrying this burden, because there’s no reason that I should,” he says.
Kody calls plural marriage his ‘toughest challenge’
Kody took to Twitter to share his thoughts as the episode aired. Though he insisted the family has “big plans” for Coyote Pass, he also admitted he was grumpier than usual in this episode — something his wives don’t really appreciate.
“Thanks for joining us,” he tweeted. “I have to apologize for being grumpy, I’m feeling a bit cynical this season. Plural marriage is my toughest challenge”
This isn’t the first time Kody has expressed that he might be disenchanted with polygamy. In the Sister Wives Season 15 premiere, he confessed he could no longer be an advocate for plural marriage. “I have all the love I want,” he said, but admitted his wives might not feel the same way.
“I’m more aware now than I ever was before of the apparent and obvious unfairness in the relationship,” he said.
Plural marriage is a “struggle,” he added. “I wonder if I would do it again, knowing what I know.”
