Sister Wives star Kody Brown has become the prize Robyn Brown didn’t want. What does that mean? Robyn Brown worked to become head wife, and now that Kody’s other polygamist relationships have fallen to the wayside, she’s his only spouse. Was the end result her true intentions?

Robyn Brown got chief status among Kody Brown’s wives; now, she’s the only one

When Robyn Brown first entered the Sister Wives sphere, she was the newest wife in the Brown family. Kody was previously married to Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown when Robyn joined the clan in 2010.

However, within four years, Robyn became Kody Brown’s legal wife. She replaced Meri, whom Kody had been married to for over two decades.

The series painted their union as one of convenience to protect Robyn’s children from a previous marriage in case something ever happened to her. However, the move appeared more sinister as the seasons evolved, and the couple became more exclusive to the detriment of Kody’s other wives.

As Kody’s chief wife, Robyn was granted status in their religious community. She also became the one woman Kody listened to the most.

However, as each wife began to leave Kody, starting with Christine, followed by Janelle and Meri, Robyn was suddenly left alone with a sad and sullen husband. Playing the obedient and dutiful wife suddenly didn’t pack the same punch as it did previously when there was competition among the wives for Kody’s attention.

Robyn Brown played the role of obedient wife because it gave her a leg up on the other women

Kody Brown adored how Robyn Brown put him on a pedestal. She played the role of obedient wife to a T.

Her behavior led Kody to use her as an example to his other wives. In different ways, Kody asked them to be more like Robyn so he could find favor with them. He applauded Robyn for allowing him to be the head of their household, as the other wives became more independent of him.

Therefore, Robyn acting like she needed Kody to put her in the front of the pack more than the other wives. He loved being catered to and the attention she showered on him, and most of all, she didn’t seem to stress him out.

All of these actions gave her a leg up on the other women. However, she is now the only wife and has all of Kody’s attention all the time. Was that what she truly wanted? Or did she like the plural lifestyle to play the marriage game to win, and now that the game’s up, she’s stuck in the marriage with no way out and a television show riding on her union to sustain Kody’s image.

On Reddit, some Sister Wives fans weighed in on a theory that Robyn Brown played the polygamy game to win. But did she win the prize she thought she wanted?

“Robyn looks so miserable all of the time,” one fan wrote. “She taught, plotted, and even lied to get her man all to herself. I don’t believe it was a grand plan she consciously executed over the years. She’s just too dull for that kind of long-term planning.”

A second viewer penned, “She wanted to be ‘the fun wife’—the easygoing, stress-free, young, pretty wife. And she was for a time. Then the OG3 were finally over it, and she’s no longer ‘the vacation’ Kody can have from the family. She’s the only wife now, so she has to deal with him in all his glory.”

“She loved being the favorite wife,” a third fan noted. “She fed off the competition w/the OG3. Now, she’s not the favorite. She’s just “the wife.” No more competition, no more comparisons, no more making Kody feel he’s so special in her house vs the other wives. Nope, just the same old – all day, every day.”

Sister Wives is currently on hiatus. The show will air Season 19 on TLC.
