Gabe confronts Kody about having to choose between him and his girlfriend

Janelle and Kody’s son, Gabriel, is being told by Kody to either stop visiting his girlfriend or he can’t see him. In a clip for the upcoming episode of Sister Wives (via Us), Gabriel says, “I feel like everyone in my family is so focused on being right or doing right that nobody is willing to just kind of take a step back and say this is ruining our family.”

While cutting logs outside on the Coyote pass property, Gabriel and Kody discuss the strict coronavirus (COVID-19) rules. Gabe says, “The only guideline I got at the very beginning was maybe it’s not a good idea to hang out with friends, but your girlfriend is OK.”

Gabriel then reveals to the cameras that his father doesn’t know anything about his girlfriend and has never met her. Kody reiterates that the real issue is that Gabe had to choose between his girlfriend and him. Gabriel begins tearing up, asking his dad, “Why? Why was I made to make that decision?”

Kody says Robyn’s house is ‘my house and my rules and my family’

Kody says that he’s not trying to pressure Gabriel because he doesn’t have support from his wife, Janelle. He says, “I’m not laying down the law because I can’t get the support of Janelle to lay down the law.”

Then, Kody says, “It’s weird. In the time that COVID has been going on, I felt more and more and more like that was Janelle’s house, and it wasn’t my house. And the irony of this situation which is not good for relationships is that Robyn’s house, as I’ve been there more, has made me feel like that’s my house, and my rules, and my family.”

The Sister Wives star says that he wishes he would have been “more patriarchal, more in charge” of the family, since the beginning.

Kody’s power struggle with Janelle and Christine

So far, on season 16 of Sister Wives, Janelle and Christine have rejected Kody’s overly-strict coronavirus rules. After Kody gives his wives a list of rules to follow to see him, they choose their freedom over Kody’s visits.

Kody has even asked Janelle to kick out her older sons, Gabriel and Garrison so that he can come to visit Janelle again. However, she clarified that she wouldn’t be kicking them out and wouldn’t come between them and their jobs and girlfriends.

On the Jan 9th episode of Sister Wives, Janelle and Christine go to Utah to be with their older children instead of spending it at Robyn’s house with Meri, Robyn, and Kody. Janelle and Christine’s choices to leave for the holiday caused the wives to separate into two groups in Kody’s mind. He sees the ones who are “loyal” to him, meaning Robyn and Meri, and those who are not, meaning Christine and Janelle.

Sister Wives can watch more of Gabe and Kody’s conversation in the upcoming episode. Season 16 of Sister Wives airs Sundays on TLC and discovery+.
