‘Sister Wives’: Kody Brown Wishes for Family to Be ‘Whole’ as Adult Kids Speak Out Against Toxic Behavior
Sister Wives star Kody Brown wished for a better relationship with his children as he celebrated his 55th birthday. He vowed to be a loving father to all of his 18 offspring. But has Kody further alienated himself from his adult children as they continue to speak out against his toxic behavior?
Kody Brown wished for his family to be ‘whole,’ but is that possible?
During an insightful moment as he celebrated his 55th birthday, Sister Wives star Kody Brown wished for his family to be “whole” again. He revealed he wants to be the “loving father and the dad that has always given me purpose in my life.”
This segment was filmed in January 2024. Season 19 continues to skip around in timelines as TLC tries to jam two years of filming into one season.
However, Kody’s epiphany may be too late after alienating himself from most of his adult children. Several have spoken out on-camera about their father’s mistreatment, while others have used podcasts and social media to speak out.
Kody’s daughter with Janelle, Maddie Brown, shared a video on her Instagram story of someone talking about toxic parenting. On Sister Wives, Gabriel, Garrison, and Savannah spoke in different terms about how Kody wasn’t present in their lives.
Christine and Kody’s son Paedon Brown appeared on a podcast discussing his father’s negligence. Gwendlyn Brown, his sister, exclaimed during a season 18 episode, “Oh my God, imagine your father loving you.”
Their sibling Mykelti Padron agreed. She said in a Patreon video clip “I think that if he took more accountability in any of his actions, his kids—maybe not all of them, but at least some of them—would reach out.” Finally, Ysabel Brown admitted she and Kody are not close at all in a Sister Wives confessional.
Thus far, the older children who have not spoken out publicly against Kody are Leon, Logan, Aspyn, and Hunter. Truely Brown, his youngest daughter with Christine, has also not shared her thoughts regarding her father.
Where do Robyn Brown’s kids stand regarding Kody Brown as a father?
Robyn Brown’s kids have never publicly spoken out against Kody Brown as a parent. They also rarely speak about him on camera, and whatever shared interactions appear positive. It is unknown if they don’t speak out against Kody due to Robyn protecting them against their siblings’ commentary.
Robyn’s three oldest children were adopted by Kody in 2014. Dayton, Breanna, and Aurora were the children of David Jessop before the Brown family took legal action to adopt them into their own family.
Robyn and Kody welcomed Solomon and Ariella together. They are minor children.
Dayton, Breanna, and Aurora have appeared on-camera with Kody and Robyn. However, they have never spoken negatively about their father.
On the other hand, Breanna and Aurora have spoken out regarding their estranged relationships with their siblings. Aurora and Breanna discussed the painful distance between them and their step-siblings. Dayton has remained silent on the matter.
What’s next for ‘Sister Wives’ Season 19?
The remainder of season 19 of Sister Wives will cover most of 2023 and part of 2024. The season includes events that happened in late 2022 and early 2023, as well as the death of Garrison Brown in March 2024.
Season 19 will bring fans much closer to real-time. Fans might be happy about the time jump.
During season 19, the family is distanced further than ever from each other. This could make filming even more difficult for the network.
The cost of filming and editing the series may not be worth it for TLC moving forward. It could cost more for TLC to maneuver filming from Arizona to North Carolina, from Utah to Las Vegas as the Brown family gets more and more spread out.
As the season continues, fans will see if Kody Brown holds to his vow of becoming closer to his children. However, as they continue to speak out against their father, that dream appears no closer to reality than before.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
